Slotted CA Hinges?
 

CA Hinges supplied with kit have slots down C/L of hinge. I am assuming this slot allows the CA to travel down the slot, and provides a better opportunity to wick. Normally with the solid type hinges, I would drill a 1/16" to 3/32" in the center of the hinge slot to get better wicking. With this configuration, it appears that drilling the hole/s are no longer necessary. Has anyone had any experience with this type hinge?

You are correct... With the slotted hinge, the wicking hole is not needed.

you can also use the slot to center the hinge by cutting business cards into elongated triangles just large enough to fit into slot, install hinges, remove piece of card then glue. works great on all my planes.

Uhh... BECKERFLY, I don't know how to tell you this, but you'd better keep a check on those hinges. It sounds to me like you have installed them wrong.

Appreciate the quick response/s guys, and the handy tip. Instructions were a bit vague or mis-leading, it referred to using a "T" pin for hinge fore/aft locator. The illustration seemed to show the pin located in the hinge slot, which didn't make sense.
Based on past experience, I knew what was being said, but it would be confusing to a first timer.

Alvin, you can easily use two pins (one on each side of the slot) to center the hinge.

Thanks again MinnFlyer, and Beckerfly no harm was done. I performed the old tug test on the control surfaces, and hinges are secure. Installation of flight pack....as soon as UPS delivers it, and I'll be ready to go to the field for flight test, if it isn't covered in snow.
