CA Extra 27%

Hello All,
I am building a CA extra 27% EXtra 300 L. I have boxed up the fuselage and now preparing the wings. The Manual suggest to have a top hinging, wht do u guys say about it should I go for the top hinging. Do guys have some pictures of the top hinging process.

It has been done either way with good results. I did the center hinge on mine just because I like it better and I am more use to it.
This is a excellent plane to build and fly.

i have one that i bought 90% complete, the builder had one aileron center hinged with robart hinge points so that's what i'll finish it with. i read through the manual about the top hinging and i couldn't really make heads or tails out of it.

The manuals explaination and english is really bad. Even I couldnt. but what I have done it is to cut the aileron and the wing trailing edge on 45 degree angle to wards inside. I have a comp arf so i try to copy it. I think it should be that way.

would it not be more streamlined to bevel the leading edge of the aileron? or do you think it would matter? i know by the time the wind gets back that far over the wing it's pretty choppy anyway but.....i was just thinking the front edge of the aileron might catch wind and put undue stress on the hinges.

Don't worry about hinges. They are 10 times stronger than needed...

As for top hinging, I've been told by a top IMAC flier that center hinges is better for axial rolls and top hinging induces unnecessary differential coupling. Now don't ask me why.

Center hinging is much easier to do anyway.

I know centerhinging is much more easier. The manual and the kit were for the top hinging. Anyways let see.

Makes sense to me because the hinge is pivoting from the center of the TE. If its pivoting from the top of the TE the deflection angle would be different when moving up than down.

With that said probably for 90% of us it wouldnt be that big a deal. I would guess once you move up into the 10% tier of pilots those things become more important.

I think top hinging looks better because you can do it with one sheet of monokote for the entire top of the wing. Center hinging is easier. Just drop the robart drill jig, make you holes, insert glue and hinge points and its done. An easy way to get perfect hinges.

Well actually I think only the last 1% would notice a difference!

I was being generous;) but seeing as I dont fall into the 1% or even the 10% category it doesnt apply to meeither way.
