Hog Bipe

I'm getting further and further along with my hogbipe and I've got a question about the headrest? The manual says to finish the headrest with my favorite method... I'm not sure what that is! Does ultracoat or monocoat covering take well to the ABS?

i got one for christmas too! go figure.....

I had an astro-hog some years ago with the same headrest. Plan on using paiint for it, installing it after you cover the fuselage. I tried to monokote mine, but didn't have much luck. finally gave up and painted it. Maybe consider using a fabric covering on it and painting the whole thing, that's what i'm doing. Good luck!

BTW, power for mine is a YS 91.... should be almost enought :D

I went ahead and painted mine with good results. I have in the past tried covering abs with Monokote and even if you can get it to stick fuel residue will soon ruin it. Make sure you use a fuel proof paint if you paint it.

I'm not really fond of the idea of trying to paint the headrest and smoothly tie it into the rest of the fuse. I may have to replace it with a balsa built up headrest.

I just finished building my Hog Bipe a few weeks ago. I noticed you are using a Saito 91. (my choice also!), and I also used the dual servo set up for the ailerons. I modified my bipe slightly to have the appearance of a pre-war trainer with the blue and yellow color scheme. I decided to leave the headrest off since I thought it looked better without it. It was also my first 60-size kit. Looks like yours is coming along pretty well. Good Luck!

My first Hog Bipe had that plastic head rest, nothing but trouble.

It doesn't show well in this picture, but on my next Hog I built up a balsa head rest and covered it in blue Ultracoat.
