I saved for many months to get one of these planes (stagger bee) and I finialy get it, well almost searched the web for the one with wingtrons, but all was backorder, so I get the standerd stagger bee, So guess what I have been doing ALL DAY, building ??? NO, recutting all the parts from good balsa wood, the balsa that I got in my kit was so bad, that I dought it would start a good fire, someone please tell me that Clancy doesnt do this all the time.
I have tryed to call them today, and no one will answer the phone, and the plywood parts, all they did (it seems) is mark where the part is and I have to cut it out, I have gone through about 20 x-blades cutting this stuff.

I have owned a Big Lazy bee, but someone eles built it, and this is my first kit from clancy, and it is going to be my last also.

darn good thing the lhs had good balsa on hand today.

anyone eles had this problem with clancys kits, or did I just happen to get a friday or monday kit ?

plus I ruined my plans because there was two parts that didnt come with my kit, so I had to cut my plans to make the wood parts I needed, well really I kitted the whole kit, might as well say I paid 80.00 for a set of plans.

so I flamed Clancy, but I'm so mad right now, I'll get over it.

also does anyone have the LAZER cut parts for the windshield, sence the "dia cut" parts are wrong, and I didnt get the lazer cut parts, I cant make what I cant see, so if you have them could you trace them out and scan them to e-mail me, thank you

From internet messages seen last year Clancy got out of the kit production business so the kits are made elsewhere.

I would like to know who is makeing it then, so then can replace my time and money, plus the box of bandaids i used recutting this kit with good wood.

Sorry if I'm out of line posting my Flame about Clancy and Hobby People, but I need to blow off some steam before I blew out a head gasket.

I'm not asking people to feel sorry for me, I just wanted people to know how this kit was from them and how disapponted I am in them.

I built my Stagger Bee last winter and don't remember any problems with the wood in the kit. I did have a problem with the CG though. The CG was different than what was marked on the plans. Bumped it up a few times before I figured out the right CG location.

What are you asking from Hobby People? When you finally get a hold of someone you should have an idea of what you want from them. Do you want your money back or replacement parts? Your negotiations should go smoother if you have a predetermined goal when you speak to them. Don't let it go. Someone dropped the ball somewhere and needs to be corrected. I own three of Clancy's kits and other than the above problem, I have enjoyed building and flying my Bees.

All I want from them now is to replace the wood in the kit, I know this sounds stuiped, but I have wanted a stagger bee for so long that it only seemed right to cut my own kit after Hobby People told me that they couldnt help me sence I opened the kit up. after all if you was told that you couldnt return the kit because you opened it and just paid 80.00 for the plans, wouldnt you cut one ??, well I guess im stuiped because I did, after all I couldnt get anyone at clancys to answer the phone, even their fax wont answer, and it seemed a shame to let a fine set of plans just sit here, even if the only wood I could use is the birch ply..

but I'm over it now, I started this morning building it with all the parts I cut from new and good wood, seems to go togather very well sofar..might be a litte heavyer then it's suppose to be, but hey if it flys, it flys.

My Stagger Bee kit was pretty sad but I just cut out my own parts and have a neat looking plane. Bolar where did you find to be the proper CG?

The CG on my Bee turned out best on the leading edge of the top wing. Flys great there.

I hate to hear that someone had this problem too, but atleast it shows it just isnt me. Almost have mine built after all that wood cutting, but im changin a few little things that I dont like the way they have it listed done.

one is I'm glueing my tail feathers on, I just dont think I would like it too well if im flying and the tail falls off.

two is im bolting the landing gear thing-a-ma-jings to the wings, same reason, hate to lose the wheels while flying.

three trying to find a way to bolt the wings on(I dont like rubber bands).

four, sheeting the front part of the wings, and also added hard wood spar.

guess that it for now.

oops forgot, five, mounting the engine inverted and futher back so it dont stick out like a sore thumb(I got a sore thumb, and a bunch of sore fingers from all the wood cutting and cutting my fingers too), and I can cover the top part of the nose.

Cutting plywood with a hobby knife has got to
be a pain...

it was or it still is, I have a bunch of little cuts all over my fingers, I guess I should have asked hoppy people to send me a box of bandaids.. just on the two little sheets of birch ply I used up two packs of 10 #2 blades, the diecutting that clancy did only maked to where you can see where the parts are suppose to be..

O,well, Im allmost finshed with it now, I'll be covering it late today.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the Stagger Bee. When I did mine last year, the die cut play was in pretty sorry shape, both uncut and seriously warped. One thing that helped is that the most warped pieces were usually doubled against a matchin piece. This let me glue them together with warps going the opposite direction, and when weighted down to dry, I came up with nice flat doubled pieces.

You'll have to send a picture of your Bee when its covered.

I also glued my tail to the plane and epoxied the wheel pants to the bottom wing. The wings are bolt on too. I don't like rubber bands either.

Would you by chance remember seeing the twin that is behind your bee? I gotta get more info on that one! Looks like some sort of competition, so maybe you know the owner?

I'm not sure really what that twin is. That photo is of a mall show we had last year and I haven't seen the owner in awhile. If I remember correctly it is a C-123 and he built it from plans. Hope that helps.

What are you guys powering your Bees with? I put a OS .26 in mine and has plenty of power. In fact it is rare I fly full throttle, it's more fun to go slow.

I put a .25 OS in mine, but havent got a chance to fly yet, just got my radio gear installed, and if it's not too windy tomarrow, I'm going to try it.

I get very good performance with a OS FP .10 R/C converted to diesel. It turns 10,500 with a MAS 8x6. How much does a .25 powered Stagger Bee weigh? How does it fly at that weight. Mine has a ton of right thrust and a wing warp to avoid left turning without rudder trim. I also had to install a gyro on the rudder as even pilots mutch better that I could not control gorund looping on asphalt. Grass was ok. The gyro fixed the problem.
