Top Flite Spitfire Kit, How big is the box?
 

Hi,

I have bought a topflite spitfire 1/7 Kit and sent it to my sister in Newport Beach. Heres the problem; :eek:She says that the box is huge and it might be a problem to take it home to sweden as a bagage.

How big is the box? Is it the same size as the Topflite P51 kit box?

Santa just brought me one for xmas. The measurements are approx 49" x 12" x 6".

I once flew home with a Goldberg Chipmunk. It went as baggage, but that was in less sensitive times. The airline didn't charge anything extra for it. Fortunately, the flight was lightly loaded and the box didn't get crushed by other baggage.

I often travel to the USA on vacation and am always looking for those special deals that are too expensive over here in Europe. On many of these trips I have purchased a 'giant scale' kit and checked it in at the airline counter as normal baggage. On one occasion, it was checked in for special handling due to the length being too long for the normal bags. Just be sure you do not exceed your maximum baggage count ( usually 2 pieces). Where you sometimes have a problem is with your local customs officer at the airport! The last kit I brought back to Germany was put through the x-ray machine and I had to identify all the parts! Fortunately I did not have to pay import and customs charges:) . Smile when you go through customs:D Good luck!

But if the kit arrives broken to sweden, then the airline will give me money for a new one?

I dident dare to send it directly to sweden from towerhobbies, because of import and custom charges. I you take it home "privatly", then this should not be a problem?
