Hog-Bipe Hinge Problem

Hey all,
I purchased a Sig Hog-Bipe from someone that is nearly complete (covered) but never flown. Here is the problem:

The elevator was put on with CA hinges without the joining wire between them. This led me to think that maybe it was set-up for dual elevator servos, but no. There are only 2 push-rod housings through the fuselage, one for the elevator and one for the rudder. At first I thought it would be easiest to add a push-rod and make it dual elevators, but I would have to remove the covering to do this.

How hard is it to remove the CA hinges once they are in place? What is the best way to do this? I don't want to mess up the balsa the hinges are glued into, but I don't see any other way to fix this problem.

Oh, and the rudder is already attached so I would have to remove that first to get the elevator off.

Thanks,

David

I would simply cut the CA hinges close to the leading and trailing edges on both the rudder and elevator with a sharp #11 blade. Create new slots as close to the old as possible, install the joining wire and reinstall the elevator and rudder using new slots.

I have replaced ailerons on different planes and the procedure works fine. Trying to remove the hinges would cause considerable damage to the wood and probably comprise the reinstallation.

Thanks Dave, that sounds like the logical solution. This is such a nice aircraft, I want to keep it that way.
