Help - Wing Problem - Rebuild or Not

1 Attachment(s)
Just finished the glassing the center section of my 4 Season 40, when I discovered I goofed on the right wing panel. I built the right panel "out of square". [sm=cry_smile.gif] So ... my wing is not straight. It's only February. It's supose to have ailerons. 3/4" dihedral under each wing tip. First build again in 15 years. I built this on a wing jig and not over the plans.

How might it fly the way it's set up currently?
Should I just continue with the wing as it is or should I rebuild the entire wing again? Take it as a lesson learned.

Options Please?

I wouldn't rebuild the whole wing. I really wouldn't worry much about it. I'd be more concerned if there was a twist in the wing (along it's length) that would induce roll. Even it up with some balsa caps on the end and go fly :)

It's not just the last rib which is not square. I've built a slight trapazoidal wing panel, so the right panel sweeps slightly foward from the center section by 3/16" inch. It's not was just the last rib, I would just fix it at the wing tip.

I would still square it with end caps and sand the leading edge back as far as you dare. That should get you within 1/16th. I'd call that pretty good.

Short of cutting the wing at the centerline and adding a 3/16 wedge or rebuilding it....

Again, I'd be more concerned with a twist in the wing.

What are you going to do with the plane? Sunday flyer banging the sticks around? Competition pattern flying? If the first, I wouldn't worry about it at all. 3/16 will hardly be noticeable. If the second, I'd cut the middle of the wing, use a plywood wedge to square them up, reenforce the h*** out of it, then reglass it.

What Brad said. A sunday flyer it's no big deal, just chock it up to A learning lesson and do the next build straight. You won't make that mistake again. ;)

I would just center the wing up on the fuse set the tip to tail distance the same on both sides and fly it. You will never know the differance. Don't ask me how I know:D

Bkdavy, it's a Kraftkit 4 Seasons 40, aileron trainer, an old Joe Bridi design. Sunday Flyer just banging the sticks around.

Graybeard, yeah, actually the second panel was straight.

CubNut, OK I wouldn't ask.

Thanks for your input guys.

Paint it,cover it, and if it crashes blame it on being hit by a stray signal.

66 years of building experience, and that's the advice I get.

I agree with the others, don't sweat it.

If it were me, i would slap a piece of 1/8 or 14" balsa to the tip and sand it square, and never say another word about it. Neither you, nor anyone else will ever notice it

That is exactly what I do! I had no idea there were people like me around. Wow. Who knew?[8D]

I agree that, on this plane, it is not worth rebuilding. I would also square the root and tip and leave the rest go. You may know, but I doubt anyone else will.

Just measured the wing again, part of the problem might be the wedge which joins the two panels and creates the dihedral. The panels look good relative to itself. The tip rib on the one panel is out from the leading to trailing edge approximately 1/8". I'm just to fix this by shimming the tip rib.

Fixed ....
