Hinges
 

Greetings from frigid Long Island
I'm Building my third bird and I would like some advice about hinges. The first two I built came out alright but I thought the gap between surfaces was a little to large. I was using DU-BRO nylon
pinned hinges. Question is do I enlarge the slot to accomadate the hinge or should I try another manufacturer? Also what are some methods of mounting hinges? On the bird I'm building the plan shows the hinge pin in a V mount to the hinge point. If this is the way they are to be mounted then how do I know where to cut the slot as most hinge locating tools only locate center? I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
