Wing/saddle reinforcement
 

I'm working on re-covering my Skybolt and I'm fixing a few issues on the way...

On the bottom wing, where the wing seats in the saddle, the sheeting and leading edge are "wearing" and have some good grooves in them. I am replacing the wing sheeting in this location (because of the wear and because some of it is fuel soaked) and would like to reinforce this area. I was thinking of using some light fiberglass. to strengthen it and slow down the wear in this area. Will this be too brittle? Any other thoughts or ideas?

Fiberglass will work well. So will saturating the wood with thin CA along the area that will be touching the saddle. One drawback is that it'll be harder to get covering to stick. So you could get similiar results using either thinned epoxy, or just use the fiberglass resin.

I'm not too worried about getting the covering to stick since I'm only doing 2 thin strips on the top of the wing. (about 1" wide each) I'll probably put an extra layer of covering on there too because it actually started to wear through the covering last time (part, but not all of my fuel soak problem).
