First Kit, Second Plane
i want to build a kit for my second plane and i was wondering what 40 size kit would be good for a first kit? i was looking at the slow poke sport but if theres and easier kit then tell me.

RE: First Kit, Second Plane
Try a 4 star or something like it. The slow pokes I have seen flying can be a handful.

RE: First Kit, Second Plane
Mid-Star 40...
What I've read recommends a "shoulder" wing aircraft for a second plane. |
RE: First Kit, Second Plane
I vote for the Fourstar 40. Click [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5599424/tm.htm]here[/link] if you want to check out my build thread. It's not a bad kit to build, just follow the instructions and read them many times before you do the work.

RE: First Kit, Second Plane
My brother built a Slow Poke Sport as his 3rd kit. He doesn't think it would be a great choice as a first build. He said it wasn't hard to build but did say he was glad he had a little bit of building experience before trying it.
The Sig Four Star, Mid Star, and Somethin' Extra are all considered good first builds. That's based only on others' comments, though, as I've never built any of them. My two completed builds are a Great Planes PT-60 and a Tower Uproar 60. I think almost any trainer is a good first build but you're probably not wanting a spare trainer. |
RE: First Kit, Second Plane
How about the Sig Ultimate Fun Fly kit? My dad has one of these that he traded a foamie for one from a friend that was already built. my dad says it floats very well and is really nice for landing. he might let me fly it sometime.
Or maybe a Top Flite Gold Edition Elder .40? |
RE: First Kit, Second Plane
I think im going to go with the Elder .40.

RE: First Kit, Second Plane
Do the Sig Somethin' Extra. It's a really easy first build, laser cut and flies great.

So many discisions![:@] |
RE: First Kit, Second Plane
Well i put up a poll in the beginners section for my second plane and they're all kits, so please vote!

RE: First Kit, Second Plane
Just to add another option. I built a GP RV-4 as my first kit. I am more than happy with this plane. It was a nice build and the finished product is excellent.

RE: First Kit, Second Plane
Just to mix things up, I am in about the same boat (I have flown an utra stick 60 briefly (RIP battery went dead) and a world models t-34 (I love it) but I really wanted to buid, so I talked to Bruce Tharpe and picked up one of his venture 60s, then found a good deal on e-bay for a tiger 60 deluxe... Both have very good accolades.

RE: First Kit, Second Plane
I can personally vouch for the Sig Somethin' Extra! I've built 2 and absolutely loved both. Easy build, flies where you point it. I started with a Sig Kadet Sr., Somethin' Extra was my 2nd & 3rd planes. One suggestion...use very thin balsa and sheet the turtledeck. Much cleaner looking when finished and neither of my builds gave me a weight problem doing so. Running an OS 46 FX on both...flies like a dream.
