Engine for Midwest Cap 232
I am building a Midwest Cap 232 with the airfoiled tail, and would like some help deciding on which engine to use. I want to use a 2 Stroke Glow Engine. 4 Strokes are too expensive and gas is now allowed in the car or house. I have looked at:
Moki/Mark 1.8 Moki/Mark 2.1 DPM Blue Head 2.1 OS 1.60 FX The plane seems to be designed with the Moki engine in mind. I worry about getting FAI fuel around here and would prefer to use the same 15% that I use for the rest of my planes. I though about getting the DPM Blue Head so I can use 15% fuel, but after reading all of the negative posts about DPM I don't think I want to go that route. Am I incorrect here? So, what about the OS 1.60? Is it enough engine? I am not a 3D flyer and do not need to accelerate out of a hover. The OS seems to have a good reputation and I has always been happy with OS. What do you think? Thanks Chris |
RE: Engine for Midwest Cap 232
Chris,
Personally I don't think the OS 160 will be enough. I know a few people at my field that have the Midwest kits, myself included. One is the Cap that a friend has and he flies it with a Supertiger 4500. Personally I don't care for Supertigers, but it seems to pull the airplane very well. Another friend is building a cap that he is going to put a DA50 in which should be oustanding. Another friend just sold his Midwest Extra that he flew with a Moki 2.10 which also worked extremely well. Mine is the Midwest Extra that has a 3W60 in it. I haven't flown it yet, but the power should be INSANE for the plane. Good luck with whichever engine you choose. Be sure to post a flight report. Fly safe and have fun!!:D:D David |

RE: Engine for Midwest Cap 232
I have the Midwest Extra 300 XS with the Moki 2.1 and really like the combination. What do you use the 15% fuel for? Although Mokis only require FAI fuel, I always use 10% nitro since that's what I use for the other glow engines I have.
