Uproar 60 Balance

Just finished building a Tower Uproar 60. Had to add 98 grams of lead to the tail to get the balance of the plane to the center of the recomended location (5 inch from the leading edge). The battery and receiver are mounted as far aft in the cockpit area as possible. The engine used is O.S. 91FX with stock muffler, mounted as far aft as possible. No weight-impacting modifications were made to the kit during construction. Since I'm relatively new to building, I have a couple of questions.

1. Is adding this much lead typical for a plane this size?

2. Is this typical for the Uproar 60?

3. Is 5 inch from the leading edge a good starting balance point for this plane? Using less tail lead makes it nose heavy, and since I really want to ring this thing out 3D style, I think it should be a little tail heavy in the long run.

Any hints would be appreciated.

Its been a year since I completed mine but I know it was balanced at the recomed point with no additional weight. I did add some rudder lenght. I used a ST 91K with adjustable GP mount. It has a different gear for more prop clearance. The finshed weight is 7lbs 14oz. Its not a true 3d plane but it lots of fun.

I'll try to weigh mine tomorrow.

As far as landing gear height goes, I am also installing a taller front landing gear mount to allow use of a bigger prop. A 15x8 should be a good match for the O.S.91FX (?)

I had to put the battery pack in the tail for balance...
The landing gear was in the front where the plans called for the grass position...

Another on at the club had it LG in the back position and it kept nosing over...

Used a Saito 91
Miss that plane...

BigBird1,

To put the battery in the tail of the Uproar60, did you have to access through the side of the fuse? I tried to push it back from the access hatch, but it won't fit past the trailing edge of the wing.

Uproar 60 Balance

I have an Uproar 60 with a K & B .61. Mine balanced in the center of the C.G. range with my battery pack underneath the back edge of the fuel tank. My plane will not snap or spin, so I am moving the pack rearward, so it is beneath the top hatch. I will, of course, recheck the C.G. before flying.

Will the Uproar 60 snap and spin? My transmitter does not have dual rates, so I had to make a reasonable compromise with the throws. I'm almost thinking it's a little on the nose heavy side, as I have trouble bleeding off speed while landing. I just love how this plane can be 5 feet off the ground with very little airspeed, and you can just keep feeding in "up" elevator, so that it almost comes down vertically.

No, the access was in the bottom of the fuse...with a compartment built and a hatch cover...
Also had to extend the battery lead...
As like you found this out after plane was built...
