LT-40, All-Up-Weight ???
 

I'm nearing completion of my LT-40. Current weight is about 7.5 pounds.

I haven't covered it yet. I'm waiting on the radio (new 2.4 Futaba.. woohoo!) before I finish balancing it, then cover it.

Anyway.. I'm guessing I'll be lucky if I get final weight in at under 8 lbs. There are things I built into that added weight. But I didn't know any better at the time, and I can't really fix them at this point.

I've converted it to electric. I have a lot of batteries in it. I can cut the number of batteries in half, that'd save me nearly one full pound.

So... Those of you that have flying LT-40s, could you tell me what your plane's flying weight???

I built mine to spec as a glow plane and ended up at 6.5 lbs AUW. This plane is a real floater. Not sure how this will handle 1.5 lbs heavier. Sure others will chime in.

I still have a battered old LT40 that I converted to a tail dragger. I don't know the weight at the moment but the plane is such a floater I doubt the extra weight will be much of a problem. You might want to make your first few landings with a little extra speed to be on the safe side.

You could add flaperons by adding another wing servo. The LT's setup makes this quite easy to accomplish.

Could you post pictures of the tail-dragger conversion????

If I have to scrap the overweight fuselage and build a better one, I will. But I also think I'll convert it to a tail-dragger.

I don't know the weight of mine, but it is heavier than normal and flies fine with an old Surpass 48 (though not at all over powered). An LT-40 isn't going to be terribly adversely affected by the extra wieght. It will fly a bit faster. If it weighs ~25% more than normal then it will fly about ~10% faster than normal. You'll need more power to fly it comfortably. Keeping in mind that a light one will fly just fine with an LA40, that still doesn't amount to much power.
