T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
I know this is the "kit" section, but my question is in reguards to a kit.
Building a CG Tiger2 and am stuck between these 2 engines for power. Any help with this one gang? Tower 46 rated at 1.75 h.p. T.T. Pro 46 rated at 1.43 h.p. pros and cons of both would be cool as I am not to familier with either one at the moment, all though I did put the TTpro46 in my PT-40, I have only ran it twice so far and not had it in the air. |
T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
If it were me I would go with the tt Pro. Actually, I did. I have heard the Tower ones have air leaks and such, but cant confirm as I have never bought one. I did buy the tt pro .46 and love it, its reliable, and strong. Currently have it pulling a 7 1/2 pound GP Mustang around and its been a great engine.

T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
For what it's worth, I bought a Tower .46 and will never get another one. It leaks air so bad that it won't shut off even with the trottle all the way closed.
I've put a sealed front bearing in it and siliconed everything I can think of and it still doesn't turn off. It's also very picky about the needle valve setting. It always seems to be a couple clicks out of adjustment no matter how I set it. This could be a result of the leaking though. On the other hand, I know people that love them. I don't own a TT Pro so I can't compare the Tower to that. |
T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
I have a TT Pro-46 and it is a sweet little engine. Remember, that's 1.43Hp at 16,000rpm with a max of 17,000. Tower is 1.75Hp at 16,000 fully maxed out. I have no idea how much Hp that last 1,000rpm gains. It is a snotty little engine and I do like mine.

A tt pro .46 with a $12 tower muffler will give you an avg. rpm gain of 500-600. Good combo

T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
The last thing I want to do is get a crappy engine, but I have to say that the 2 break-in runs on my TT pro46 have been like Spike says, it doesnt want to shut off. Although I have since the last run, loosened the carb and while holding the engine inverted pressed down hard on the carb to help the o-ring seal, and while pressing it down re-tightened the nut that secures the carb to the engine. Waiting now to see if that did any good.

Hey Warbird........you dont happen to have a tower part # for that muffler do ya?

T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
The Tower engine has a higher BHP because the muffler, Put it on the TT pro and you will get more power. Here is the Tower page with the muffler. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJB16
They did go up on the price by $2 but still cheap. Dauntae |

Ed,
Its a Bisson pitts style muffler. I bought mine from a local dealer, but here is a link to the Bisson web page where you can buy it direct. http://bissonmufflers.com/en/muffler...ting_id=114084 Warren |
Which engine?
If you're looking for good power on a low budget, the Super Tiger engines have never done me wrong.
I got my first one flying in Utah where alot of others used them. They're not as popular here in Texas but when others saw the power it had over O.S. and T.T., they were instantly curious. One thing though, they do take a bit more time to break in but you'll really like the end results.... |
T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
TenThumbs,
Are you using the new ST's or the older ones? Warren |
T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
I've been using ST's since the early 90's, nothing prior. I've been flying since about '92.
I've had O.S., Webra's, T.Tiger's,Magnum's, H.P.'s and others but my favorite all time has been the ST's. Tremendous high's, good idles, midrange is good as well. I've never been an expert at tuning engines so I stuck with what I knew worked for me. The last time I flew at the field someone commented how my .40ST ran stronger than their .46OS. ??? |
T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
Well this time I was feeling generous and got myself an O.S. 46FX.
H.P. inbetween the T.T. and Tower models, and I have always had good luck with them in the past. |
T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
OS 46FX, You will be very happy with that one, You can almost break it in in the air, I have a second one on the way and my first one runs like a charm. Great choice.

Pretty funny. I was just going to suggest that engine and you have already bought one. I put one on a new magic, started it the first time, ran it for a couple minutes and took off. Never had to tweek it or anything. OS engines are great engines. You will be happy.

T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
Fun money all but forced me to get the Thunder Tiger engine for my trainer, I am still not sure I made the "right choice". I know I have always had O.S. in my earlier days in the hobby, and never had to mess with them at all.
From now on I will save my pennies and get O.S. Like you said, they run right out of the box with no adjustments needed, worth the extra cost in my book. |
T.T. Pro 46 or Tower 46?
ecajberry,
It might make you fell better to know that the tt46 pro is a copy of the old OS FS-.46 engine the designer went over to thunder tiger and took his design with him |
