Battery location, Herr Cub

I'm building a 48" (1/2A) Herr Cub and using a Speed 400 motor. There are no instructions for doing an electric version, and I've never done one, so I could use some help.
The instructions call for gluing decking over the front part of the fuse after installing the fuel tank. This is where I want to put the battery pack, but I'm not sure where to put it for balance. I'm thinking either make the front decking a removable hatch so I have more access to the battery for balancing, or to build the wing and then tack everything together and balance the plane before building the decking.
The battery charger instructions warn not to charge the battery in the model. Does this really matter? If so, I'd better make a removable hatch. Otherwise, I'll probably use cable ties to secure the battery.
Any suggestions?

Herr Cub Electric

I was helping my dad build his over the weekend and we were talking about how to load the battery.

I was thinking about having half the window being removable so that the battery could be slid through the side. The window could then be velcro'd back to the side of the plane. I like your idea for making a hatch that is removable.

What battery are you going to use? We have not settled on one yet. I think he has a 7 cell Nmhi 900maH to try at the start. He is using a 480 and will try a 6X3 prop to start.
