Painted/Cleared KAOS FUSE

Folks,

Question please - will my solid KOAS FUSE remain fuel proof painted with a high quality paint and cleared with Minwax Polycrylic? Just wondering if anyone has used this method for covering a fuse? Thanks for any feedback.

RE: Painted/Cleared KAOS FUSE

I've used MinWax poly for a long time and never had any problems with it. I have seen posts here that say it is not completely fuel proof, but I've used it to seal fire walls and landing gear plates and never had a fuel proof issue. I'd say that you will be okay since the fuel residue on your fuselage will have little or no nitro in it. But, I always make a test piece before I try anything new with paint. You could make a test section with minimal work and drop raw fuel on it to see the reaction. Let the fuel sit for awhile and then wipe it off to see if it damages the clear. If the raw fuel doesn't hurt anything, your good to go.

Good luck.

Minwax Polycrylic is fuel resistant with the following caveats:

1. Let the poly dry for a MINIMUM of 7 days before exposing to glow fuel residue (wipe raw fuel off immediately)

2. Do not let the residue remain on the finish for longer than 4 hours. After 4 hours the residue WILL soften the finish.

Thanks PMW and Campy ... several coats have been on for months, I put it away in the summer opting for another project, but now I'm ready to get back to the KAOS. Appreciate your time!
