Float planes
I have never had floats, or have seen anyone fly a plane with them. Do you have to HAVE water to use a plane with floats on it?

Float planes
Well that is the general idea of floats. However they can also work on snow or even wet grass (but it will have to be really wet).
On most setups it only takes a couple of minutes to swap the undercarriage over to floats or back again so it's not exactly a big deal. Steve |
Floats
I know aguy who has a float plane and most of the time he's flying off of grass. It will wear the bottoms of the floats so he has to keep replacing them.If your interest in planes is float planes or amphibs, build them or buy them.Fly the planes you like, thats the whole idea of the hobby.I love bipes and float planes so thats what I build and fly.My float plane will get to water once in a
while and the rest of the time it'll fly off grass, but who cares,I'm flying the planes I love. Just a thought Butchman |
Float planes
I fly my Ace Seamaster off of the grass as much as off of water (with no wheels). Mine is the original kit which is no longer available. I don't know how well the ARF would stand up to bumping along the grass.

Float planes
I put float mounts on just about anything I build that will accept them. Have a scat cat on floats, shoestring, ugly stik 60, cub and have flown a few bipes on floats. I also have a Balsa USA laker for water flying. Flying off the water is a blast.
