balancing goldberg ultimate
i'm having trouble figuring out the best technique to balance my ultimate. the instruction give the balance point on the lower wing, but whats the best way to do it? your suppose to balance a high wing plane upside down because it's top heavy, but when you turn a biplane upside down the upper wing is in the way of using a cg machine. i guess i could just use my fingers but thats kind of unsteady with a 9lb plane. how would you experts do it. Thanks

Do a search on RCU see who got a Goldberg Ultimate, then send a PM , that person might be able to help you. I never had a bi-plane so I can be much of help.

I balanced mine on the steel piece that connects the forward and aft cabanes. Just reach in with your finger or a dowel. After flight testing, I moved the c.g. to the most aft recommended position.

I have the same question...the book says 1/78 to 2/78...but from where...upside down....right side up...next to fuse...at tips. This is all I lack to fly her and I have had no luck. Both of mine were flown prior to me buying them....the owners never CG ed them, and they have no clue about the subject. If you get the skinny please pas it to me at [email protected]

If you look at the plans you will see it is from the leading edge of the lower wing at the wing root.
For balancing I used my fingers. Mine now balances just in front of the rear cabane. |

The CG is between one & 7/8 and two & 7/8 inches aft of the leading edge of the center of the lower wing. Apply a piece of masking tape perpendicular to the wing tips at the distance from the wing center that you desire the CG to be located. Balance it right side up using the tape as a guide for balancing the aircraft.

I simply balanced my CG Ultimate by projecvting a straight line up from the leading edge of the lower wing to the underside of the upper wing. Never check it inverted. Easily balanced and flies very well. Have had more difficulty balancing some trainers.
