Super Chipmonk build

Hey, guys, Need info on this build. How can I expect it to fly. I'm doing no mods, using a Super Tigre 61 w/bisson muf ( installed on side) Fiberglass Specialties cowl. Supplied factory LG. I'm wondering about CG. If I have to put any lead in it ,I'd like to "hide it" inside the fus w/ acess door to change it if I want to change motors. I going to put a smoke syst. on it & would like to plan ahead where to install the componets. How will it land, hot? docile? Does the plane have any bad habits? I'd just like to get a jump on what to expect. Thanks

Goldberg?

If it's the Goldberg Chipmunk I had two with Saito .80's in them. They flew wonderfully, although back then my landings were not always so smooth (hum, not these days, either) and so I ended up moving the gear to the fuse. I got the CG by moving the battery pack up front, no extra weight needed.

Yea, it's the Goldberg kit. I'm prob. worried when I don't need to worry. I'm just wondering if the plane has any bad habits that I need to watch for on the maiden. (it will be a couple of months yet) Thanks

Yea, if it wasn't for the landings this hobby would be even more fun!!

Well I got a new kit Saterday and it is about done:D I don't see where these planes are so hard to land  what goes up must come down. My last one was built in the late 70's and it went down last year with radio failure. Module came loose in TX, Bummer[:@] Just had to have anouther one. They fly great with a 2st 61 or 4st 91 LOVE THIS PLANE. All I need is covering;)

This was my second low wing, after the Astro Hog, and I thought that it was a great plane to bridge the gap to designs like the Extra 300. The one thing for me was that the plane reacted much more quickly to inputs than I'd been used to, but this is not a bad thing, just something to watch for if you have not flown a nice responsive plane. I can't think of any bad habits at all.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to reinforce the LG Block. I've had 3 of these in the past 15 years or so and if they are still using the Plywood LG Block in the wing - that would be the week link in the system. On the last one, that's still flying today, I used some 1/8" music wire soldered onto the 5/32 LG wire and ran it back on about a 45 degree angle till it intersected with the wing. There I built a smaller LG block to attach the 1/8" wire. If your serious about this mod PM me and I'll take a pic or two and send it to ya.

Go ahead Live Wire I don't know how to post pics on this thing. I work on my plane when the fishing isn't good! I'm in no great big hurry to finish it, as I won't fly it till the end of April . I live in Indiana in the summer & come to Florida for the winters. I usually have a new "victim" to take back north every spring. I don't fly down here because the local R/C club has a $200. iniciation fee on top of the $60. yearly dues. It's a little pricey, for 3 months of flying & being there is a swamp at each end of the runway. I just wait till the spring & take my chances in the corn fields..

I love the CG Super Chipmunks! This is the 3rd one I owned. The last one I crashed because while doing a low to ground high speed inverted fly by I forgot that 'down is up and up is bad!' This one has a OS 91 4-stroke that suits this plane perfectly except it is a little nose heavy. It wants to nose over while rolling at slow speeds. I don't want to add wait on the tail beause it flies so good, I am just careful to keep up on elevator on the ground. Great plane and crowd pleaser!

I built one a little over a year ago as my third plane. It's a very docile plane to land and fly but with enough control throw you'll still have enough excitement to last a while. :)

There was a pretty active thread while I was building here:

Beefing up the landing gear blocks is a good idea. I beefed mine up and still managed to rip one out (of course that's because I stalled out about 3 feet off of the runway and it's a miracle that no other damage was done). :)

I love my Chippy! Have fun building and flying!

Mark

They say it is easy. but us old dogs still have a hard time;)
On the left lower corner of your screen you see reply. It will take you to your post, You make your statement then at the bottom of the screen you see click to upload. It will show upload pattern then it takes you to your pics and you pick the ones you want to upload.
You can practice this on the forums test area;) You can see where it leads you all through the process.
