Dynaflite dual elevator servos

I am building a Dynaflite Super Decathlon. The plans show dual elevator servos mounted side by side with the rudder servo in the middle. I have them (Futabas) sitting in the mount with the arms mounted one at three O’clock the other at nine o’clock. I plan on connecting them to the receiver with a Y connector. But in this configuration they will drive like ailerons not elevators. I could switch one of the arms around so they are both clocked the same but I think the rudder servo will be in the way. Do I switch the wires in one of the servo connections (I’m thinking the Y connector)? If so witch ones and how?

Depending on which radio you have, you can mix 2 channels together for the elevator servo's. Good Luck, Dave

Been there, done that. I mounted my a long while back, but I remember that I did it pretty much how the instructions called for. I used a standard harness/standard servo wiring. I had little if any issue with positioning the rudder servo to avoid conflict.

Thanks for the reply. Did you use a dual servo reverser? Or did you use the Y harnes and clock the arms in the same position eg 3 o'clock.

Which transmitter will you be using?

With servos rotating in the same direction (standard Y harness), getting identical movement of each elevator half can become a real nightmare (if at all possible), unless somehow you can "mirror" each pushrod location and travel path.

If you radio can do the mix, with the horns at 3 and 9 o'clock...it's a done deal.

Sorry, guys, I don't obsess all that much. I used a standard Y-harness and have both servo arms pointing in the same direction (i.e., left). There is room in there for this flexibility. I have not put a nano-measuring laser refractive angle depicter to it, but they look like they move pretty much together. I challenge anyone to notice a deviation in flight. Ah, the freedom of flying a computerless radio.

But that is just me.

I would let you barrow my nano-measuring laser refractive angle depicter but loaned it out to the guys at NASA (some shuttle thing thier working on). Hope they don't drop it again. I am using Dupro heavy duty servo arms, they are long so I don't think I can switch them. I think I 'm going to try the servo reverser. Whats another $35 It's only money.

You can reverse one servo by changing polarity both at the potentiometer and at the servo motor, if you are into soldering. Easiest way is to plug each servo into a seperate port of the receiver and reverse one by programing your computer radio. You do have a computer radio, right??

I have a Futaba 6ex. You are the second guy to sugest this. I will have to do some research. You wouldn't happen to know witch ports. If not I can figure it out. Maybe I should post the question on the radio forum, if there is one.

Ahhhhh...The "nano-measuring laser refractive angle depicter"!

Well I dug out the 6EX radio manual. In the PRMX mode I slaved the flap channel to the elevator. Worked great except that only the elevator channel will trim……Bummer. Nothing a new radio won’t fix (unfortunately not this year). I know I've said it's only money but that was just married guy tough talk. Looks like I'm back to the servo reverser no big deal. It was worth getting back in the manual to become more familiar with it's capabilities.

I'm not familiar with your particular radio, so I can't help you much there. Every time I need to program mine, I have to refer to the manual as well. I understand that some of the newer radios are easier to program, or at least more logical. Check on consumer feedback here in the forums before you invest in an electronic servo reverser to make sure the particular one you like works well. Good luck,

I met the same issue with 2 servoes on elevator control, my radio is 7CAP Futaba, i use P-MIX1 to slave ch6 to elevator and set RT to -100%, -100%, the 2 pieces elevator seem like action correct, but i can just trim the master piece of elevator, the other stay there w/o any responding. terrible to imagine how could i trim the ele when the plane in the air......

On mine, I installed both servo arms the same direction. It worked fine. I did raise one of the three servos about 1/4 inch so that the pushrods would happily interact.

Reversing a servo direction is an option, if that is what you like to do, but the airplane won't care.:D

Jim,

I mounted the rudder servo (middle) adout a half inch so the heavy duty arms would clear. Not sure now if I will need all that throw. Anyway, I ordered my reverser from tower last night. So we'll see how that works.

How do you like your decathlon?

Powered with a G38, I really liked my Decath. I sold it a couple years ago.
