SUPER COVERITE COVERING OR EQUIVALENT
 

I am looking for Super Coverite covering but it is very hard to find online.
PREFERRABLY: Does anyone know where I can purchase this covering, or an equivalent unfinished pre-adhesived covering?
LAST RESORT: If not, although I really want the iron-on, I will use a doped-on variety but do not want to use silkspan or silk. Silkspan is too weak and looks dull and silk is too hard to get tight.

Any help is appreciated.

tower hobby did sell it. I believe it came in the 15' roll. I have purchased some from them earlier.

Have you ever tried Solartex. It is a fabric iron on covering. I just got done covering wings for a Norseman I am working on and this stuff is a dream to work with. the glue holds rock solid and it shrinks way better than Monocoat. I bet you could cover a tennis ball with this stuff witout wrinkles.

Solartex does come in 'natural' and 'antique' color, but I need a covering that can be painted over (like Super Coverite) after covering.

Try Ceconite, the lightest weight, it comes in several weights. Aircraft Spruce and Specialties is a source. Goes on very well but you need to use an adhesive or nitrate dope to attach it. Shrinks great and makes a beautiful finish. Also comes in as long a roll as you want and I think it is either 4 or 5 feet wide. Check out their web site.

You can paint Solartex, in fact that I will be painting my model with Butyrate dope, but polyurathane based paints will work just as well.
PS: I just remembered a while back I called Balsa USA and they paint their Solartex covered models with Latex house paint. I would go that route but I don't need a quart of paint and that is the smallest amount I can get.

Another question: I've heard that Koverall is good but you have to apply the adhesive to the airframe first. Compared to Solartex which of the two is best and more natural looking after painting? By-the-way it is a Kadet Mark II I will be covering (in the manual's prototype it is covered with silkspan)

P.S: Missileman, why would Balsa USA paint their planes with Latex paint? Latex is not fuelproof.

I don't know, they told me it was.
I have a Kadet MK II in my hangar right now. Great flying airplane.

OK, so I am thinking of going with Solartex antique. Now I have a final question: Will painting the Solartex with Rustoleum or auto paint (both said to be fuelproof) be enough? Or will something have to be painted over the paint?

Not sure that rustoleum is fuel proof. auto paint is.

With the Mark II covered with Solartex and painted by hand, will a GMS2000 .32 be enough power? If not what should I put in it?

It is said to be fuelproof after sitting for about 3 weeks. But I think I will go with auto paint.

I have an OS 40fp in mine (about the same as the OS 40LA) and it has power to spare. I would think the 32 will fly Ok, it is in the middle of the range recommended.

So it is Ok to fly with that engine. With the slight weight added due to the paint what size propellor is best for power?

And using auto paint is it best to thin it first (what percentage) or use it straight out of the can?

If it is enamel==mix 25% thinner to 75% paint. If it is lacquer 50-50. That is if you are spraying.

I will be brushing it on. Which is more fuelproof, enamel or lacquer?

Probably laquer but it is hard to brush as it wants to get tacky quite quickly. I would probably use more thinner in the enamel than the 25% if you are going to brush. That way it will have a chance to flow to cover the brush marks.--Do use a good brush.

What do you think of Midwest Aerogloss? How many 3.5 oz jars of dope and thinner would I need to completely do the Mark II? What paint would be best for the cowl?

Will Monokote trim set properly over dope?
