Pick my next kit to be built

I am just about ready to start a new kit.
I'm going to list a few plane kits that I would like and would like you guys to pick it.
I'll do a build thread on whichever one wins.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

I love the look of the GP Patriot. Watched a video on it and it looks extremely fast
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebXGX-bT8tg&NR=1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06vtYul2BBk

The GP F-4 Phantom looks good too, but not as nice looking as the Patriot
http://www.greatplanes.com/reviews/gpma0440-rcme.html

I don’t like the looks of the Global AD-1 Skyraider
http://members.cox.net/moorman1/pgskyraider.htm

The Midwest Starduster looks cute but not my choice
http://rc-modeler.net/starduster.aspx

The P-51 looks good but not as nice as the Patriot
http://www.hobbyworks.com/default.cf...Home/ID/500006

Page for voting can not be displayed for me, but my vote goes for the GP Patriot. I hope you choose that one, I would love to see a build thread on that beauty.

I would like to throw in my two cents for the Patriot build. I have one on my shelf and would be curious to see you do it and learn from you. I have really enjoyed your other building threads I have seen you in. Great work.:D

Thanks Deuce, If you want to learn from me your in pretty bad shape.
Thanks for the compliment though and the vote.

Just curious. When do you plan to make your decision? I am really looking forward to your build thread. And I hope it will be the patriot [8D]

RE: Pick my next kit to be built

Patriot 5
F-4 2
Sandy 1

I'm just finishing up the F-117 this week and will decide within the next week or so what is next.
I wish this poll would work. I was hoping for bigger numbers.

I'd like to personally Thank every guy that posted a vote.

I'll start a new build thread in the next couple weeks.

Dave

With a .91 DF engine that Patriot should go like a bat outta He!!......

RE: Pick my next kit to be built

Is the Patriot the 40 sized version or the XL? Seems the 90 would HAVE to go on the XL, to me...

I'm still voting for the F-4, there are lots of Patriots around but the F-4 is not very common. Unless you already have an F-4 kit and you are looking to sell it to finance the Patriot build. In that case, build the Patriot and PM me about the F-4 kit...:D

Mark

P.S. - Good to see the F-4 getting some more votes, I was feeling lonely there for a while.

Ditto...the f-4 is quite uncommon here on RCU and have been eyeing one for myself!

The Patriot is the 40 size, should do well over 200.

These are all kits and engines I have tucked away here for a rainy day,

Appreciate all the interest and the feedback.

Would like to do a Patriot 60 kit, don't have one yet.
Don't have a U sport 40, but I do have the 60 here.

Thanks all,
Dave

NOT EVEN CLOSE......F4 ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!

I sold mine a few years ago and really wish I had it back. I dont know what I was thinking....I sold it CHEAP! I never see any of these around my area and it had such a WOW factor....both on the ground and in the air. They definitely need some horsepower on the nose though....

Hey Plumber, Would be interesting to see a 40 size Pat with a .91 DF on it. I know a guy who put a .60 on a .40 size, and just cut the cheeks off, and mounted her straight to the firewall, was ugly, but fast. Do you think you could confirm the "over 200" comment with a radar gun or something? Would be impressive for sure. I like the GP F-4, all though all the plastic makes me want to puke, it would be awesome to redesign the plastic into some lightweight balsa structure. Sorry guys, but ABS on half a plane makes me.......well you know. The look of the GP F-4 is good though, and the one I saw fly was a good flyer, but as other's have said, it needs some power on the front to haul it around. I guess do what you want bro, and good luck.
Peace my RC Brotha's[8D]

RE: Pick my next kit to be built

My Patriot I fly now is old and needs replaced.
It has had a VF 61, a Webra Speed 61 and now a YS 60 FR.
I've flown it for over 10 years
It scoots right along at 16,000 rpm's
Can you imagine 25,000?

Ditto on the ABS plastic, hate the stuff.

Got friends at the local PD, no problem on a radar gun or the 200+
I say 200+ with absolute confidence,
and a depends undergarment.:D

F-4 is catching up though

RE: Pick my next kit to be built

Plumber, did you keep the nose portion of your patriot with the .60 size engine, or have to cut off all up to the firewall? My friends moves along, but he put an old K&B on it, that never did run right. I bet yours with the YS hauls. Sure wish they still made YS two cycles, great engines as are the four strokes. I sure hope you pick the patriot and .91, I would LOVE to hear about the speed you would get, that is insane! Over-all what engine gave you the most speed on your current and aging patriot? F-4 would be cool, what about the DF .91 on the F-4?? Or a larger engine for the F-4, like an O.S. 1.40, 1.20, or nice webra speed in that size? I think the F-4 would cook with the DF.91., but I'd put my money on the Patriot. Have fun either way, I'll be watching that thread. gotta luv prop jets!
Peace

RE: Pick my next kit to be built

Hey Reg,

I see your from Wisconsin, you can come and see it fly for an easy 3 hour drive and we can goof off too. I have my own flying field here at home, most clubs frown on my behavior.

All good questions
Nose on my .40 Patriot is shaped just as if a small engine was in it, made my own nose pieces from stock.
I have no fake nacelles, no retracts, and a 16 oz tank. It is neon red for visibility.
You HAVE to build the plane around the engine and tank, same with the DF .91 but more intense changes are needed as the carb is in the back.
Fastest is the YS, slowest the Webra and the OS .61VF was in the middle.
I run 11-9 props and get some good high speed passes, downwind is awesome!
I have replaced 3 canopies and finally made one from wood as they always come off.
I have thought about the .91 in several planes including the F-4, F-14, and some strait wings.
Reason I choose the .40 Patriot is the fuse is light, yet strong.
The F-4 would lose plastic at that speed.

I will build all these planes, just don't know which one first.
Thanks for the post,
Dave

Hey if anyone wants to build a patriot along side him I have one a 40 Size kit for $100 bucks. Would be cool to have a dual build log going to see what each other does differently.

RE: Pick my next kit to be built

Hey Dave (I assume your a plumber by trade) [)], Thanks for the answers. Can you post a photo of your old patroit with the .60? My friends was so ugly with just the firewall there and engine, on such a sleek plane. I do love the patriot, I have had a couple, just with 40's and pipes, very fast, actually they were very forgiving planes. I added retracts, they worked ok, if I ever do another, it will be robarts. I really like this Idea of a DF engine on a prop plane, great idea! I think I have been near your town before on a trip through the state. I am near Racine. I tend to avoid clubs myself, so I am a roamer, always looking for a place to fly, parks, development areas, etc. I would LOVE to have my own field, your a lucky dude. So when you build the F-4, how are you going to attack the ABS problem, if you use it, how will you attach it, what glue what method, etc. I actually bought that kit when tower sold them, and sent it back, because I didn't want to mess with the plastic. I also did that with a Top Flite DC-3, I guess my building skills wouldn't allow me to scratch the ABS parts out of balsa and ply. But wouldn't that be awesome? An F-4 with a built up balsa top, and all ABS gone. Any guys out there that have flown the Phantom for more than a couple seasons, and if so, how did the plastic hold up? Any cracks or major damage over the years, or did it hold ok?

Flyguy, your offer is tempting, I would love to have another patriot, and it would be fun to build them side by side and post photos along the way, but I have several other projects going. Anyone else?
Peace Out.......
Reg
