Patching a small hole in Kyosho Spit wing?

Heh folks,

Love my Kyoshso Spitfire, but while turning it over to put it on my table I dinged one of the wings on the corner, put a quarter sized hole in the open part of the wing. I do not know what type of covering this is, but it doesn't seem like monokote, any idea how I can patch this?

Thanks,

Mill

Just cut a circle of covering big enough to cover the hole with a 1/4" lip all around and iron it on. If you don't have a covering iron, a clothes iron will work. Start at the lowest setting and work your way up until it adheres the covering.

Thanks MinnFlyer,

Was just concerned about the type of covering and it being open bay area, so not sure if an iron could push it down enough to tack. Covering seems real fragile, alot more so than monokote.

clear packing tape will heal that wound , cut a piece and lay it to it , ..
some times you can put a decal (self stick type )over it , dont look like such an obvious screw up, :-)

I join covering over open bays on almost all of my models. The pressure required to adhere the covering is very minimal. With practice you should find that you can get adhesion with just the lightest touch of the iron.

Thanks, will try iron + monokote then, nice shade of cub yellow will look great on that brown wing.

Careful if the hole is near a rib spar this covering is VERY sensitive to heat. I had a few dents in mine during the building process and managed to heat them out.

I find that for really small holes tape works great! Sometimes its a pain or not worth it to recover the hole with monokote and I just get the good ol tape out to fix it.
