Tiger 60 Flaperons?
 

I was wondering if anyone has used the Tiger 60 with flaperons? If so how, did it perform? Also Tower calls for 45-50oz of toque on the servos. Would standard servos(Futaba S3003) run at 6V be OK?

I plan to use flaperons on my Tiger 60 if I can figure out how to program my Hitec Flash 5x radio. When I read the instructions it looks like I should use GlidAcro mode ??? With a Flash 5 can I mix in a little elevator with the flapperons? Mix them up ? or Mix them down ? I do not know.


If anyone knows -- PLEASE post!

On a related line. How much deflection should flaperons have? I have a Big Stik 40 that has 7/8" aileron throw either way as normal high-rate, but my radio (a Futaba 6DA) only gives around 1/4" as the full flap deflection.

I have a Futaba radio. The elevator to flap mix mode drops the flaps a bit whenever the elevator is commanded to the nose up direction. Im not sure how the Hi-tec functions. As a full-scale flight engineer I do know that whenever you drop the flaps your going to need down elevator trim to compensate for the added lift. Hope that helps a bit.

Live2flyrc, Standard servos will be fine even with a 4,8 pack.

CharlieP, 1/4" is plenty. Remember that Flapperons increase your chances of tip stall.

Thanks MikeB. I set them up to function but currently have a reverted back to a plain old "Y" connection as I am still getting a feel for this plane. Maybe in a month I'll be ready for some experimentation.

I have the flaps to elevator mixing (the sadly discontinued 6DA is amazing for a non-computer radio) and also aileron differential. Thought I was losing my mind trying to set up the flaps until I noticed that the differential pot was full right. The drawing in the manual is different than the installation in the radio. The manual shows a 100% > 0% clockwise range instead of the 50% > 0% < 50% that actually exists. Good thing they wrote the scale in Lillipution-sub-micro-reduced-molecular font around the pot. so I could eventually read it. (As I was banging my head on the radio because I could only get one aileron to respond). These are difficult concepts for an old free-fight/control line upbringing like I had. My RC mentors, and lots of life experiences in non RC fields, have taught me that the functions must be understood and the technique mastered before you let a computer or machine take it over for you.

I bought the Big Stik as a test-bed, but things like that keep me cautious and sticking to baby steps. Happily, a tail dragger (this being my first) isn't as big a bug-a-boo as some would have you believe. (Now I've jinxed myself for sure).
