What Plane Would You Want To See Turned Into A Kit?

Hey everyone! Let's start a really interesting thread here!

Here's the question- If you could pick almost ANY plane to be turned into a kit (Fiberglass body, foam wing cores etc) what kit would you want to see me make available?

The only criteria I ask you to keep in mind are, it must be no bigger than the C-130 I offer on my website (108" Span, 61" Long) with no more than two engines, no biplanes, and it must be propeller driven.

I already have a custom made .46 race plane and a .46-.60 Pilatus Pc-6 Porter coming out soon, so I'm looking for the next one to kit in about 3-4 months. Whichever plane has the most interest by then I will consider kitting! Please, no Mustangs, P-47's or other commonly kitted planes, the goal here is to make something unique, but appealing enough that I can justify making the tooling. You can see my planes at www.penceaviation.com and in my store here on RCU.

Thanks!

Nice Ryan STA for GAS would be nice, but keep the foam.

Thanks for asking! I've long thought the internet would be a great sounding board for new product ideas. Pity so few manufacturers consider it. I would suggest doing something sexy that hasn't been done before but not too complicated in order to keep the retail price from getting prohibitive. Something that will generate buzz and draw attention to your company without spending a lot on promotion.

I've always thought it would be fun to build one of Jack Northrops flying wings from the '30s. Design it around twin .46 2-strokes with a center tank and foam core wing with option for retracts. Maybe say 12 lb and 80" span. Sexy airplane thats easy to build, fun to fly and easy to transport.

Yea!!!!! I'm with this idea. I have had the chance to fly the full scale Ryan STA........... Way back in the late 60's I got to go along with MR. Ryan on a ride in one of the STA's. I will always remember the ride and the experiance of meeting Mr. Ryan.

I would even like a built up 1/4 scale one if they ever kit it.

How about a nice Stuka in the 80-85" range. Only others out there, are too big, or too small.
An 80-85" range F-82 twin Mustang might be nice as well. Good model for a pair of .91 - 1.20 four strokes.

Wow guys! Lots of good ideas and some real beautiful planes, I really like those old racers and the Ryan!

I really appreciate the feedback, because when I decided to try and start a business, I also decided that I didn't want to re-invent the wheel and kit the same stuff everyone else did. I'm sure I'll have a few classics come out here and there, but to me airplanes are like candy, there are too many different ones to keep building the same stuff over and over.

Keep the suggestions flowing, as we move along I'll make a list of the most popular ones and we can then talk about different scales, and how soon I can kit it. Thanks again!

i would want to see a Diamond DA-42 TwinStar. Its what i fly in real life and also i think it would be cool to see how they built it seeing as the real one is all composite.

I'm in for one of those. Thats cool!!

I also like the Cessna Skymaster 336 or 337. Push/Pull twin. Hostettler makes one, but it's WAY too big for the average guy to transport. Nitro Models has a BARF without functional rudders:eek: One of these for twin small gassers would trip my trigger. Even twin 120 glow would be okay.

I like built up kits. Traditional balsa and ply. You can grind the foam up and sell it to a styrofoam cup manufacturer as far as I'm concerned. Also, carve and sand projects with massive chunks of balsa will turn me away. Laser cutting is nice, but not necessary. Die crunching is fine if the parts come out okay. A little fiberglass here and there is okay, but I'm not particularly fond of glass fuselages. What are ya gonna do when ya knock a hole in it? Not exactly easy to repair and if ever saw me land, you'd understand why I need a model thats easy to repair. :)

I'm going to give a varied answer and say I'd be happy to see any GA single. Approx .60 size and a built up kit. It would also have to have a scale outline, not sport scale.
There are almost no GA planes available as a kit.
If I had to pick a fav I'd say,

Vans RV-7

How about a LARGE ME-163 Komet kit :) Something that would take a 40 or 50cc gasser up front?? :)

Brewster Buffalo 1/5
Macchi C200 1/5
Vought Kingfisher 1/5
Bucker Bestmann
Ryan PT-22 1/4

That is sort of my build list also

DO 335
IL 2
P 39
Mig 3
LA 5 or 7

Not sure why there are no good Russian WWII kits available? I also don't know why the P39 kits have been dropped from people's lines? If a nice kit was offered with the retract it would be a good seller. The problem with both the 335 and P39 is getting the right retracts to fit in the planes.

While the Gee Bee racers have been kitted to death over the years I don't recall anyone doing a nice kit of Hall's Bulldog. It would be ideal in 1/3rd scale - anything smaller might be a handful. The pics are of a 1/32 scale Williams kit art I found on the net.

Now THAT is a sweet looking plane. The paint reminds me of a Travel Air Mystery Ship. (Also a favorite.)

Anbody like the Shorts Skyvan? Goofy looking but I have been kicking that one around too.

I would really like to see a Skyvan...I also have a thing for flying boats and amphibians, so would love to see a Sikorsky S-42. How about a Fairchild C-123? And the XB-70 is the sexiest thing to ever take wing...
