That's why I keep a bottle of "debonder" near the building board:D I once had my thumb and forefinger glued so bad only the exacto knife could get them apart[:@]
Dan,
Do those lights put out much heat? (Is it safe to mount them in the plastic cowl?) I've known some LEDs to get VERY hot.

These are very safe to mount in the cowl. These are meant for trucks and are of high quality and do not put out any heat at all! They are awesome for this project and available at you local truck dealership or Napa Heavy truck parts.

There is a Peterbuilt dealer 30 minutes from where I live. What should I tell them I'm looking for? (What do they use them for on trucks?)
Thanks for the info.

Have you gotten any farther on your stab?
I got the top of the rear fuselage sheeted tonight. It was a lot of work shaping and sanding to get the sheets to fit around the fin and stabilizer. I first soaked the sheets in water to help them conform to the right shape before glueing them down.

First off I have gotten farther on the stab, I just have to finish sanding it and them I am going to sheet it today. Pics to follow. I am a little nervous sheeting the fuse. I heard that Windex also works good to wet the sheeting to get it to conform.

As far as the lights go here is the link to the Truck-Lite page:
http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs...tentryId=57972
The part number you would want for the landing lights would be 33265C. I bought the ones with the mounting flange, but you do not need the flange because the lights themselves fit in the openings perfectly. These can also be purchased through Napa with the same part number. The Peterbilt dealer will probably not have them in stock, you would want to call them first they should be able to order them for you. I paid $20.01 (which was a little high) each for them from Napa, they should be a little less without the flanges. Don't let them charge you too much.

Dan, I would like to send a shout out of encouragement. I did my first kit build at about the same age, a top flite p51 .60 size. Its funny, I was told by another modeler at the hobby shop that if I had never built a plane that I would not be able to build that one, well I built it almost 7 years ago and still have it!! I'm glad to see people just jump right in and do it. Currently I have a cessna on the way and plan to do it up with lights and such.

Thanks, I really appreciate the encouragement. I don't like when people say I can't do something, it makes me want to do it more. My camera was borrowed out so I haven't been able to post any updates, but will be soon......thanks

Hey dansdeals, I'm the guy who started "the other cessna thread" almost a year ago that someone has already linked to. My model is completely framed up, mostly fiberglassed and has a few of the ABS parts 80%-90% done. My goal was originally to finish this plane in about a years time, or this coming march, I think. I guess that means we should both be finishing at the same time! Weird. No what else is weird? I'm also 27 and have two kids. [hums twilight zone music to self]

It took me a good 100 hours just to get the airframe built up. Now I've slowed down a bunch with the finishing, partly because I lack the funds to buy paint right now. And also cause sanding, fiberglassing, and ABS work just don't have the instant gratification that gluing balsa together has.

You can build this puppy in 3 months, if you work on it almost everyday. Have fun and good luck!

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 Skylane Build

Just to let everyone know I am back on track on this build (crap happens). I am having trouble uploading pics but will try to get them done soon. I should actually have this done ahead of schedule, if you can believe that. The stab and elevator are now completely done. I have decided to change my build a little bit as I want it to turn out good (I've been all thumbs lately). I want to have this ready for our Big Plane Flyin so to save time I am going to Monocoat this plane. I have decided at the present time not to install the interior kit to save weight and time, I may sell it on ebay or offer it to one of you guys if you are interested. I have also thought long and hard on my motor choice and have settled on the Magnum 1.20 4 stroker (I think). I have the new muffler and header for a .61-.75 2-strokes if any of you guys are interested in it. I hope to have this plane done now in 4-5 weeks as long as I can afford to buy the motor. I will post pics as soon as I get them, but we have all seen a plane being built so I may wait until it is farther along. We'll see...........

Congrats at reaching this stage, but don't get too excited. You've a long, long way to go and at the rate you've been going, it's going to take quite a while.
Hopefully this excitement will motivate you step by step, as burnout is far too common with a kit like this.
Best of luck and keep posting your progress.
Paul

Dan,
Looks great so far!
Just thought I would give you and anyone else out there a heads up...
I've been building the wing this past week and noticed that in my kit some of the wing ribs are mis-labled.[>:]
Some of the 6's are 9's and vice versa. I'm sure it is a mistake because the numbers are underscored (6 , 9). It's kind of an obvious mistake, but one to be aware of.
Good to see you building again!
Russell

dansdeals3489: Many recruits in the Army and Marines recall hating their drill instructors. Their best was never good enough. But, they survived recruit training anyway. I don't think you're gonna like us much, but the more you hate us, the more motivated you'll be to finish this project :) .
