Need your comments!

Guys ,
I need your opinions about pusher airplanes!
ie engines in the back of the plane and not in front......
What are the advantages  as well as disadvantages  !

pushers

hisham:

I have built and flown two Balsa USA Enforcers (pushers) and have a Force One Kit I will build this summer.

Advantages:

Prop doesn't hit anything it runs in to.
Hard to break the prop on a "less than perfect landing"
Looks different from most other planes at the field.
No propblast over the rudder (see disadvantages)

Disadvantages:

Fuel tank placement is in front of the engine - may be a problem in some installations. Pumps/regulators can overcome this.
Not a lot of choices in prop sizes - expecially when you get above the .40-.46 size.
Can be hard to start with an electric starter (depending on config of aircraft).
No prop blast over the rudder (see advantages)
Sometimes people forget the engine is at the back (most configurations) when they grab things or want to hold the aircraft
Exhause points into the airstream which many people really don't like.

I am sure others have more comments - these are just mine. I sort of enjoy them but they do take a little getting used to.

My experience - your mileage may vary.

Dan
