Servos don't move
Building a 4 star. Before I start installing the servos, etc. want to check things out since I have a new Airtronics RDS 8000 radio. I have a Racers Edge 1600 NiMH battery, a normal switch, the 92824 receiver (2.4ghz) and Futaba S3004 servos. I have binded the receiver and transmitter properly, I believe but the servos don't move. Any suggestions?

RE: Servos don't move
ORIGINAL: RICKSTUBBZ Lokidog, What I can tell you is the wiring is different between Futaba and Airtronics. Not on the RDS 8000. Airtronics uses the same servo wiring pinouts as everybody else now, and has for at least the last 5 years or so. Yes, older Airtronics radios had the polarity reversed on them. But now they are the same as the Futaba servos he is used. Lokidog, Have you tried re-binding the receiver to the transmitter?? Give that a try first and see if they will work after that. Ken |
RE: Servos don't move
Is the blue light on, on the Rx? it sounds like you need to bind the Rx. Go through the bind process again and see if that does it. I had to talk my brother and brother in law through it over the phone. They tried several times and did not get it done. I talked them through it and it came on. They missed a single step, and it would not work.
The Futaba servos will work well with the RDS8000 Dru. |

RE: Servos don't move
I have done the binding twice. The receiver light responded appropriately after both times. I will try it again.

RE: Servos don't move
Make sure that the servos are plugged in correctly, the black wire should be at the top edge of the receiver case when the servo is plugged in. Do the servos make a little twitch when you turn the switch off and on on the receiver battery? If so, they are plugged in correctly. Are you using the switch that came with the transmitter/charger package? If not, make sure that the black wire on the switch wiring to the receiver is also at the top of the receiver case. So far, my only complaint of the Airtronics 2.4GHz receiver is that the connection to the servos are not very accommodating of some of the brands of servos connectors, especially Futaba as you not only have to shave off the little tab but thin them down a bit and perhaps chamfer two corners.

RE: Servos don't move
I have paired (binded) the Rx at least 6 times now with no change. I tried binding the other Rx I got with the Tx with the same result. I know the servos work since I hooked them up to my other plane's receiver and they moved.
The servos do not twitch when I turn on the switch. I noticed that before and thought that was odd. I am going to contact Airtronics. |
RE: Servos don't move
unplug a servo and plug it in flipped(the plug, not the servo)
just sounds like the polarity is backwards...... |
RE: Servos don't move
Has anybody heard of this problem: I went to my LHS this afternoon and the only servos that will work in this receiver are Airtronics servos! This despite every one saying that the combination I have should work. Even the Airtronics people say this. I will be calling them again tomorrow and probably sending them the unit to fix or repair. I will update this posting when I get more info.

RE: Servos don't move
sounds like battery polarity is reversed

RE: Servos don't move
There really was a simple reason why this happened, CHARGE THE BATTERY...and not with a wall charger. This is my first NiMH and I knew that wall chargers take a while to charge these up but 48 hours and little to no movement of the servos? Won't do that again. Thanks for all the (unneeded) head scratching you guys did.
