I get such little time to build, it takes me forever to complete a kit. So, I have to show off my latest project a GP Extra 60 size I call "Mid-Life-Crisis". The scheme is of an Extra flown by Gene Soucey at the Portland air show last year. I contacted the designer of the pant job (Theresa Stokes) and she send me some pictures to work from. Came out a little heavy at 8.6 pounds but I am overall happy with the way it came out. Still have some minor graphics to add but it's flyable :D .

Engine: OS 91FX w/Jett In cowl muffler and Nelson on-board glow driver
Covering: Chevron Perfect paint over monocote
Controls: Pull-Pull on the rudder
Dual servos for elevator and aileron

I fly at Fly-A-Ways RC Club
in Beaverton. Great group of guys and a pretty nice field. What makes you drive all the way to Washougal to fly?

Great job and congratulations ! When's the maiden flight ?

Thanks for the compliments guys.

The maiden flight was on 5/29/03. It was a bit hairy as the left main wheel came loose (I had just finished tightening it) and locked up (there was a huge flat spot on the wheel from the skidding) just as I was about leave the runway forcing the plane to pull hard left just as I lifted off. This had me heading for the safety fence at the end of the runway with about 5 feet of altitude and a full 90 degree left bank. Banked full right to miss the fence then back hard left to avoid over rotating by this time I'm under the tree at the end of the runway and still only 5 ft off the ground. Managed to level out, get out from under the tree, gain some altitude and have time to take a breath. A few minor trim adjustments and all is well. Someone comes up and says "I assume you know your left wheel pant is hanging from the main gear"...I say "Uh no..." So now on my maiden flight I need to land with only one wheel. Anyway made it down but tore off the landing gear with no other damage. Fixed the landing gear and the second flight went much better. Tonight is flight #3 with the cowl on.

TopShelf,

Yes I like the colors. Very nice looking plane. I hope all the rest of the flights are a lot less stressful.

Whats the bottom look like?

John

Great looking plane.

How is the Jett incowl muffler working?

Sprink, the Jett in cowl muffler works great. I'm getting the same or more RPM than with the stock muffler. 11k and some change, I can't remember the exact number right now.
