Applying Monokote to Monokote
 

I have a plane recently aquired from a friend who did not have the time to fix it. I am attatching a picture of the wings that I would like to patch. Do I HAVE to use a bonding solvent to bond monokote monokote, or will the heat iron take care of it. Any other opinions on how to patch this hole are welcome.

You can use the iron set to ~200 deg to iron the Monokote patch over the hole. You'll have to remove that sticker first. One think about white Monokote patches, it will always look like a patch....[&o]
Another option would be to use a piece of peel and stick Monokote trim sheet.

I would try to peal that decal off and with your iron seal the covering to the ribs, sheeting front and back trim the hole back to the ribs and sheeting that you just sealed the covering to.
then clean the area good I use rubbing alcohol cut a patch to cover the hole and seal it down all around keeping all the wrinkles out that you can then carefully shrink it smooth.

A patch will always look like a patch... just try your best to match color. A red patch on that white wing... er.. not good..

But once the plane's 50 feet away, either on the tarmac/runway or in the air.. you'll never see that patch...

Just something to think about...

This is real, even a patch of same covering material leaves seams noticeable in the long term when it gets dirt [:'(][:'(]
My english doesn´t help much, I´m wondering if [link=http://www.monokote.com/accys/topr6020.html]Top Flite Trim Solvent[/link] would help CNR0616 to get the absolutely perfect patch. Have any tried yet?

After you remove the decal and patch the covering, you can just put on a new decal to help conceal the patch. I've never worried much about the patches on my planes as long as they kept flying.

Rather than using heat to re-attach the covering a thin mist of windex under the monocote will also hold it down. Mist on the windex and place the patch on the plane, Sqeechie out the excess windex with a credit card and let sit over night. the next day you can use trim solvent to secure the edges permanently. Also if there are any wrinkles a warm hot iron will take them out. As far as removing the decal I would be careful you are liable to end up with a bigger hole, but I agree it needs to be removed for the patch area.
