Name Some Different Building Tools
In looking at some of the other build threads I thought that I'd share some of the tools that really help me building. For instance, here is one (actually two) of my favourite tools
http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...32&cat=1,41182 I use these very miniature planes when I'm shaping wood, like leading edges, or shaping trailing edge stock to become ailerons. There are all kinds of useful little tools that you or a buddy uses that makes all the difference. What are they and how do they help? Are the available online? |
RE: Name Some Different Building Tools
Little planes are great for shaping those long leading edges arent they. I use a lot of pocket levels, bubble levels, and my home made incedence meters. I also made some squares used for supporting fuse sides when glueing it up. They're made out of two 5" x 2" x 1/2" bar stock aluminum. Big enough to set 10lb weights on to hold them in place and clamp the fuse sides to. Helps build straight and true.

RE: Name Some Different Building Tools
I got a small Stanley plane that I REALLY like. It has replacable blades that are SUPER SHARP... Cuts balsa like butter... I also have a basket full of small plastic clamps that I got from Harbor Freight. I use them a LOT when building to hold stuff for alignment or while glue sets. Other important stuff in my kit includes -
Saran Wrap to cover the plans metal yardsticks larger bar clamps small band saw and/or scroll saw small bench sander palm sander Dremel tool (Lipo cordless is EXCELLENT) get some Roto-zip bits for this Hobbico SLot Machine (if you like flat hinges) Hollow core door covered w/ Homasote for building table (have several) collection of small sections of aluminum angle stock 4x9 inch drywall sanding block (Harbor Freight, my favorite tool store) T-bar sanders of varying lengths (can be made cheaply from aluminum angle stock) a large collection of lead weights (mostly 1 pound blocks, some 2.5 pound) millions of T-pins |
