RE: CAP or Extra?
Ray, the color scheme, and the plane, look awesome! I was expecting something pretty cool, but the detail in the finish is very cool.
Work getting in the way is a sign of the times. I was just thinking about that myself - I have taken off two weeks in the last three years, plus a few days here and there. Was planning on taking off time of xmas, but once again I have payable work so I feel like I can't pass that up with the state of the economy. Anyway, great work on finishing the Extra. Let us know when you fly it - I imagine the weather out there is not great. We have had a lot of snow and rain out here in Northern CA so I have not flown much. I switched the OS46 for OS55 in the Extra and put the 46 in a Tower Kaos that I picked up. I have not flown the Extra since putting the 55 in it. The Tower Kaos flys great and is so easy to land - I figure it is a good plane for windy winter days. I also picked up a used Seagull Edge 540 with a ys63 and a Venus II with a ys110 from club members - I think it is the economy - people are selling stuff cheap and I can't resist a bargain when it comes to planes. So now I have a bunch of planes I haven't flown. Started on the Sig Something 'xtra and have the wings built, but haven't touched it in weeks - I may attempt a yellow and blue color scheme that is a simplified version of your plane. Happy holidays, John. |

RE: CAP or Extra?
The more I look at the finish of your plane the more I am impressed. The color on the cowl matches exactly with the mono/ultracote (or whatever you used). How did you achieve all the little covering blue squares?

RE: CAP or Extra?
Thanks for all the compliments, I really appriciate it, I view RCU as my extended friends and family, so yes it means alot to here the comments. The funny thing is the more you try to make something look like something it will never be, the more disappointed you become. The checkers on the main wing were hand cut and individually layed on the wing, the tail I tried the glad press and seal transfer method, worked like a champ! cut my time into 1/10 the time. The cowl has an error on it, the last row of checkers isn't right, but I made it work, then I screwed up the checkers on the tail as well. But then I just sat there saying it's not even close to the true scale plane and it will never be, plus it's a field beater plane. So with that, I decided it was good enough for the life it will live. But now I'm putting the TF P-47 back on the bench to finish that off. I also extended the bench to build the bigger birds I have. So now I looked at my post on which one first, and it looks like the hostetler skybolt won that poll, so it might just have to be built soon, or the vailly FW-190.
