Polyurethane?
 

Is all Polyurethane paint fuel proof? Would like to hear from anyone who is using it in the spray can, what brand, etc. In my area we have Minwax in the spray can but no one can tell me for sure if it is fuel proof, it says on the can it is for "inside use" and nothing about protection from alchohol or petrolium products. Lowes has a product called "Spar Urethane" for outside use but says nothing to indicate it is fuel proof.

I've used it on a couple of planes as a clear coat. It is not completely fuel proof, but it is fairly resistant. If you clean any fuel off within about 2 to 3 hours, it'll be fine. I would still go with epoxy for the engine bay/firewall. I've used both the Minwax and the Diamond Spar Urethane. I found that the spray cans can leave a bit of a bumpy texture. for a good smooth surface, I use a cheap harbor freight hvlp detail gun.

It kinda works OK but there are much better products you can buy. Top Flight clear in matt or gloss has always worked.
Perhaps the number one product is the Klass Kote clear, it's a two part epoxy and even acetone doesn't remove it!! Go look at there web site for info on there products. Not cheap but tough stuff.

If you want fuel-proof, polyurethane...acrylic polyurethane to be exact....look here...
