TF Contender 60
Anyone built the "Gold Edition" contender kit, lately?
Had one years aago, and literally flew covering off of it. Great plane in the old days. |
RE: TF Contender 60
It is a great plane today as well. The kit is a good build and the plane flys just as nice. Good Luck, Dave

Have one on the building board right now. Tail feathers are all done and the wing is about half way complete.

The Contender is a great flying plane. Definitely go with the up swept wing tips. If you don't, the plane will roll the opposite way of the rudder input..Right rudder makes it roll left etc...

Yeah, I was gonna reccomend that , too. Make the wingtip in the optional position, the ONE thing I didn't like from the old plane, no knife edge.

RE: TF Contender 60
I have a Top Flite Contender I built a year or so back (my 5th one) with the up-swept wing tips and an OS 55AX for power. I was amazed how well it performs a knife edge - only input required is top rudder and it will go straight as an arrow. The flaps work great - mixed in 15% down elevator so there is no pitch-up upon activation. More than once I've received comments from other club members stating they don't understand how my Contender flys so well - of course I tell them it's the pilot but anyone who has a Contender built straght and light knows better. You can't go wrong with this plane, it's a blast to fly, easy to transport, and rugged. The Contender is one of the planes I always have in my fleet - the other is the Ultrasport 60.

Fellas,
When I built my first Contender about 10 years ago, I don't remember this issue, but am I missing something about the shear webbing? At 3" wide, it doesn't butt up against the ribs. Am I misreading the manual? -Allan |
