1st kit

whats up fellas, i'm building my first kit (gp f4u). i don't know how it happened but i got something off a little bit and now the wing is slightly warped. does that mean that i can use the trims on the tx to trim it out, or it will never fly very well, or does it mean it won't get off the ground. thanx, billy.

billy,

You picked a challenging design for a first kit. Good on ya. The answer depends on how much warp is 'slightly.' If it takes a close eye on the incidence meter to see a very small difference, than you can trim it out. If you can see it by looking down the offending wing panel, you likely will have to fix it.

Any way you can post pictures?

With out pic,s , it would be hard to sya,but now the time to correct it..
I started this kit 4 yrs. ago and have the fuse done . Had to set it on the back burner till I got a few easier builds under my belt . You took on a whole lot of airplane for your first build. Good luck and let us know how it goes . Did you do the flaps and retracts? The flaps are why I,m dragging my feet .lol

Tough first kit!

Even big warps will fly....but you'll lose considerable control surface movement in one direction trying to get it to fly straight.

You can probably buy another wing kit if you screwed it up badly enough. That's what I would do if I was in your position.

thanx for the replys, what it is is a twist in the center reverse gull part. the back rib tab on the left rib is supposed to be resting on the table and it's off about 1/16th of an inch. i'm going to go ahead and build the wings and fuse and if they come out good i'll probaly order the parts and redo it. every thing on the center piece came out soo good except that one thing, i hate to redo it but i guess i need to. thanx again.

if the worst you have is a 1/16th of an inch I think you are golden !

If you are real picky..and I don't know your kit first hand..but you might be able to add 1/16th more wood to the bottom, (where its off) and just sand a tiny bit more of the top, bringing the sides more in align. Of course don't go crazy and sand on the top surface until its frail, or gone...

But if its truley only off 1/16th, and not an inch or two also at the tip..don't sweat it..sand it :D

Agreed. You will hardly notice 1/16th at all. Pattern / precision guys would.
