E 6000 for nylon hinges?
 

Has anyone tried E 6000 adhesive for gluing in nylon hinges? If so, did it work?

I would be very leary of it. I am not too fond of the rubbery goo type glue for hinges. It eats foam, so dont use it if the wing is foam. The Pacer hinge glue works great and cleans with water while wet.

It is an all purpose type of adhesive (at least that is what I would call it) that was being discussed in another thread concerning which glue to use to attach canopies.

I just picked some up today to experiment with. I made up a test hinge slot and used it to glue in one hinge. I decided right away that I do not like it for this use. It is too difficult to get into the slot. I just gave it to the wife to use around the house.

That is great stuff to use for your canopies I have used this to mount throttle servos and even battery packs. I use a hot spatula type tool to remove these things.If you don't it will tear the wood .It really adhears well.. When you use it for your canopy, if there is a little slopy ,let it dry then you can rub it off with your finger.. household goop is good to use also

I'm with you on that one, except I thought van due to the E part, but that might just be every modelers dream transport, think of the size of an E 6000 van, it'd be the aircraft carrier of vehicals.

I do not know if it has silicone in it but it sort of looks like silicone after it cures. I agree that it's probably too thick to use for hinges but it seems to glue just about anything to anything. The TDS says Gasoline will dissolve it.

I did a test by cutting a hinge slot in a piece of scrap balsa and gluing in a hinge using the E 6000. I gave it about 48 hours to cure. The hinge pulled out with little effort and what little glue was stuck to the hinge itself rubbed out easily. I may use it for a canopy, but for hinges I'll stick with ProBond or 30 min. epoxy.
