Quick question with a quick answer I imagine. I'm building a GP Corsair 40 and am to the part were you solder the tail wheel wire together. Is there a special solder to use? I have regular electrical solder with flux in it but I'm not sure this is what they are talking about. It says to add the flux separately as well like I would with copper piping. Just need a little info! Thanks!

Just make sure you sand the surfaces well, and tin the wire first before adding the brass tubing if it calls for it. Itt will make the job easier.

Capt,

Just make sure your iron has enough heat to properly allow a good solder joint. I'm guessing, but I believe you would need 200w+ or similar with a torch. I'm just estimating, but for sure too little heat will result in a cold solder joint, which you want to avoid.

Dave, good point. For those not famiilar with soldering, solder goes from a solid to a plastic state, IE, it melts but stays in a ball/puddle. This is at the melt point of the heating process. If you quit the prpcess there, you have a really bad solder joint. IEa cold joint. With more heat, the solder will turn liquid, you will see the ball or puddle suddenly spread and sometimes, disappear. At this point, you quit adding heat, but don't allow anything to move for a couple minutes intil things have cooled enough for the solder to go back to a solid state again..

drube, The kit is coming along well.  I first got this kit and started it two years ago.  I found retracts from airbourne-models  that were made for this kit for $25 and decided to try this mod. Well after tinkering with fitting them into the wing I laid it down for a few months. Came back to it. Got frustrated with the gear fiting again and picked it up again about two months ago.  I figured out the gear finally and now have the wing about 99% built.  I'm just ready to start the fuse.  I'll post some pics and maybe a video of the gear working when I get off work today,  After 2 years I'm definately happy with the results so far!</p>

For parts that need strength use silver solder. It required more heat and needs the use of flux (paste), the solder will follow the flux. Silver solder can be bought at most hardware stores. Be sure to scuff the soldring parts with some really gritting stuff like 36 grit, this will really increase the strength.
