Hello, I posted this in the ARF section as well since I have no history of this plane. I was hoping someone could help me identify this plane. I just picked it up. Thank You

Anybody recognize this plane

I see a J-3 fuselage minus the braces inside the windshield. I see Citabria vertical fin and rudder, the horizontal stab looks like an Aeronca Champ refugee, or maybe it's Citabria also. The cantilever wing is from who knows what - I don't know of any fabric light planes without wing struts.

And the engine cowling. If some one put a cheek cowl on a J-3 to "Slick it up," it would match the fuselage.

So what did the seller say about it?

It came from a work buddy who's Brother-in-Law used to be heavily into R/C airplanes. It's basically hand me down stuff, 3rd or 4th generation

No, I just got it today. It has a K&B .60 on it and is missing the high speed needle. I need to do some general maintenance to it and add a receiver. I'll get it in the air pretty soon. Thanks for the help. Dave

K&B? With four head screws it's a 65, not a 60 or 61.

And there are two versions of the Sportsman 65. Take the prop drive washer off - if you see a brass ring around the crank it's the late version amd will last quite a while. If you don't see the brass ring it has the crank running directly in the cast aluminum of the crankcase, and you'd be well advised to see if you can get the later style. They're interchangeable.

In either case use castor oil fuel. not synthetic.

You can get the needle valve from MECOA, its used on other K&Bs. They may have the crankcase too.

And be careful with the head screws, they will strip easily.

Citabria fuse, horizental stab and wing, Just add the struts. Cowl???????Who knows. It's even off center by the looks of things, but the model looks fine!

Too narrow. The Citabria fuselage is the same width as the cowled engine. That's why I said J-3 fuselage.

The shape of the rear windows isn't right for the J-3 though.

My vote is definitely a Citabria. Other than the as mentioned too narrow fuselage, window outlines and fuselage profile match the Citabria. Probably just a semi-scale rendition without a lot of concern for dimensional accuracy.
