Crooked tail
Any comments on this? I was about to maiden this 4 Star next weekend but final check reveals a very crooked tail. Should I try to fix it before flying? I had trouble with the tail from the begining because the stab was warped out of the box(you can see the concave shape in the photo.) It is heavily epoxied and reinforced with tri-stock and I am quite positive it would destroy the stab and fin getting it off the fuse, and probably damage the fuse in the process. But am I risking the whole plane flying it as it is? Just a few of my few 2cents but I like a built up stab and fin much better than solid balsa after building this kit.

You can go ahead and fly it. It will bank slightly to the right when you give it up elevator, and will thus require correction in loops, etc. but it will not be severe. Wouldn't work if it was a clean pattern plane but is ok for a sport plane.

That is not too bad. Fly it and see how it does. I had a Falcon 56 that was off by atleast an inch and a half and it still flew for over ten years.

If you install wire bracing (flying wires using clevises as small
turnbuckles) and your heat gun you can square it up.Also makes tailfeathers stiff as hell. or just leave it alone |

Forget it. As Azcat said, you will have a little yaw coupling, very little. You might well never notice it in flying the plane, and I'll bet nobody at the field will notice it. Bill. |
Z_28_0117 - Fly it like it is.........
...........I won't tell anyone at your field. :D

I've seen (and built) worse. The stab and fin look pretty good, problem is alignment to the wing. I would fly and see how it goes.
If it is too bad, you can correct the allignment of the wing by adding extra layers of wing seat tape to the right hand side to lower that side of the wing. That is what I used to do until I learned that you should check the alignment before glueing anything. |

Thanks everyone. I feel much better about flying it now.
