Hi Guys,
In the current kit I am building ( Goldberg Tiger 2) :)it calls for " Model Magic ".
I have never heard of this before, so I am asking for help from all you RCU Modelliers.

Model majic is nothing more than model filler, you use it to fill the low spots in the surface for final finish. You can use light weight spackle to actual hobby filler if you want. I try to not use it that much, it tends to sand slightly different than balsa and either sands away too fast or not as much as the surrounding wood.

I glue sandpaper on a piece of straight and flat wood about 1/2" wide, some 1" wide so I have a sharp edge. That allows sanding the filler without touching the balsa.

Another help is to fold the sandpaper to create that sharp edge so we have grip to the fingers on one side while sanding with the other side (the other face of the sandpaper).

That's the "retail" price listed, and you can buy it through your favorite hobby retailer.

"Model Magic" was the brand name that Goldberg used for their filler. The Hobbylite is a very similar product. I have not tried the spackle yet, I am sure that it would work well and probably be much cheaper.

you can mix a small amount of acrylic hobby paint with the white spackle to make it balsa colored..lift the different lightweight spackles to compare weight..I do believe the model magic is slightly better than the spackle but much much more expensive..If you only need a smalll can I might be tempted to use the hobby stuff.

I have had issues with the fillers when using sig stix it and cloth coverings...if you need to reposition something I have actually pulled the spackle up before..and they don't like a lot of heat off of an iron either...

It is a rare privilege to address a RCU moderator and an official of the Hobbico organization.

I have a question that may not be easy to ask and answer due to the difficulty of describing a situation.

I bought some of the product HOBBYLITE WHTE FILLER (8 oz).
When I first opened the container that was apparently well sealed, I had a hard content that I could not easily pick up. It appeared all quite solid. I was expecting something like a very thick paste; something like the consistency of automobile filler.

I chopped out whatever I could with a small chisel and hammer and crushed it with the back of a kitchen spoon and then put it in my kitchen blender and managed to get it to look and feel like pulverized balsa. I considered I now had some powdered balsa having a very fine grain.

I used it by making a thick paste with Welbond glue that dries clear (no color). It sanded quite nicely.

I am wondering if that container happened to have spent years on the shelf of the hobby dealer.
There seemed to have no binding agent in it. After turning it into a powder like form, it felt like there was no adhesive in it. I looked but did not find any packing date on the container.

Please do your best to describe what the good new product looks and feels like.

When I needed more filler, I crushed some medium hard balsa to a powder and mixed it with Welbond glue. I was not to gamble on the only local hobby dealer in this area.

Zor,

Hobbylite filler should by no means be hard when you open the jar. It should be a thick, spreadable paste. If it's hardened, then just give us a call. I have a few jars at home that have been sitting on the shelf. They aren't hardened, but are a bit stiff. You can rejuvenate it if it's not hardened by adding water a few drops at a time, until it's at the consistency you like. If the material in the jar is completely hard, though, don't bother. It's not worth it, and it will likely not stick well if you try to apply it. Call us about it, and you'll be taken care of.

My post #9 was not a complaint to Hobbico. I wish to make sure you did not take it that way.
I was just requesting some information on the consistency of the fresh product.

I am not presently building any model. I have a 14 feet aluminum boat and trailer that I am overhauling.
I will be working on my old Mambo when I finish this boat and trailer project.
The weather has not been cooperating to work outdoor for the last month. Other indoor project also keeping me busy.
