Skinning question
 

I am building a greatplanes Piper Cub. AllI have flown/built are SPADs or ARF's soI have to skinning experience. I have done some test peices to get used to it but here is my question.

The instructions tell me to go ahead and gluetogether the vert stab and fin and glue them on the plane. but would it be easier to skin them first then glue it all in? rather than skin them on the plane?</p>

Yes it would be much better to skin 'em first. Does this model have skinned tail surfaces or are you modifying the design?

yes it has a skinned tail. I guess I'll wait till the tail is skinned to put it on. and just make sure not the skin where it will be glued.

I think I must have misinterpreted what you meant by "skinned" I thought you were talking about balsa sheeting but now I can see your just talking about covering.

Ya sorry. I've only really built SPAD's so I'm new to the whole kit building thing.

Some people prefer to cover first and then glue, but I would much rather glue first and then cover. It is only slightly more difficult, but the end results look much better as the covering hides the seams.

I did some covering articles a while back that you should take a look at.

There is a fin- fuselage fillet junction that won't look proper if the parts are covered separately. If you don't care about that then cover them separately for it will be easier. Good luck.
