You might look at the Great Planes Super Sportster 40 mk 2
Discontinued. Only the .60 is available, may as well get the Ultra Sport 60 though, same price. Better order fast, kits are going obsolete as fast as they're suggested.

The sheeting of the wing of a Kougar is very easy to do. I would rather do that than build a spar and rib wing. The directions in the kit are very good and if you follow them and use a good glue that does not eat foam. (stay away from epoxy for sheeting unless really thinned otherwise it gets real heavy and it then flys like a brick) you will have a tough durable airplane. The wing will handle cartwheels, rough landings, pancakes.

It is just a great airplane. Covering with money-coat is easy. I won't do that anymore. They tend to last longer than the covering and I have had moneycoat fall off because of age. I will now fiberglass and paint. The weight difference is insignificant if properly done and it will stay prettier for many years and improves the strength. Money-coat degrades and falls off with lots of flights.

I also have a Sig King Kobra another great airplane in the 60 class. It is going through rework right now I am installing retracts and the covering was falling off so I will fiberglass and paint it. Just a big version of the Kougar. Flies better because of its larger size.

I like the Goldberg Tiger II. My buddy and I built this for his second bird. The quality and instructions are excellent and it flies very well. A good platform to learn aerobatics

I have never built a sig kit though I have built quite a few others and would hands down have to say UPROAR there easy builds (I could probably build one in 2 nights) fly very well (not a 3d plane but a very good 2nd plane and there cheap.

Bang for the buck, Tower Hobbies Uproar , easy to build, easy to fly, and only $45. I've built and flown a lot of different planes but still enjoy my Uproar.

I like the goldberg tiger 60. I built one years ago and flew it alot. I've been out of the hobby for about 7 yrs now and I'm getting back into it. I'm in the process of putting together a tiger 60 arf. This plane flies very nicely.

I'll go with Dave here. I think the 4*'s are great. the Venture .60 has a good rep. And I've built most of Sigs line, all good kits. The thing with the Tiger .60 is you know it flys well, construction is straightforward (with ribs and spars), it's a trike and it has very fine aerobatic capabiliteis + it's easy to see. As a useful experiment, you might try a Tiger .60 ARF and while you'rs flying that, build the Tiger .60 kit. That would give you an opportunity to get used to the Tiger's flight envelope while you're building the kit version. I bet you'll find that, given the same equipment, the kit flys better.
Best of luck

The Sig Kavalier is a good build and a very good second plane.

The Sig Somethin' Extra is a very good kit but not sure if you would want a tail dragger.

Kavalier is a great choice. I built a bunch of them several years back. I think the hardest part to that kit is getting the canopy on. We used them in a racing class but after the racing the pilots had a great little stunt plane to fly. I used the Up-Roars in fun fly events, another outstanding plane and the kit is under $50.00. they really were disigned to be built in a hurry and fly great. All these good choices!!!!:D:D

My choices would be (repeating a couple already mentioned):

* For sport flying, 60 size: Venture 60 from BTE (Bruce Tharpe).
I tried to order one, discontinued. Website hasn't been updated yet. Another one bites the dust.
Hmmm, hit refresh. The Venture 60 is now available and the website is very much up to date. It's back from the dust :)
