AMA Plans Service has a couple of plans.

There were two basic Chief designs, the pre-war (often called the "65", or 65-C or 65-CA; for the earliest ones, the 50) and the post-war 11AC. So when looking for plans, watch for it if you have a preference. The pre-war is harder to find. Not done that much. I have a 1/2A Texaco plan for the 65, but it is not rib-for-rib construction. I could get you an address but not copy...the guy who did it signed it to me and clearly wants a bit of return on his work. I think I paid him $15.

My old Aeronca Chief website has a three view. Pat Trittles plane is the best 11 series kit produced yet. The Dare Chief is a combination of pre and post war details.

The three view saved at:

Pat used some of it during a redesign of his Chief when he found that the fuselage was too boxy.

Really nice 3-view...thanks! And Pat's rendition looks terrific.

The pre-war Chief had a different rudder, much like the "K" and "L" (maybe the same), and the cowl was different; many of them, but I think not all of them, had a joy stick and were sometimes called "stick Chiefs". Even among pre-war Chiefs there were differences in the windscreen, and some had rear windows and some didn't. That's about all I know. Here are some pics that I got from various internet sources...

The most noticeable thing on the pre-war Chief is the engine cowl. Post war there is a dorsal fin on the later models.
