Throws on a cub.
I know the subject is a little vague.
I just picked up a cub in a trade, and although it's obvious it's a kit build, I have no idea on what throws should be on the control surfaces. Is there any information I can provide that will give some guestimate on the throws? If not the backup plan is to use max throws with 60% expo. |
RE: Throws on a cub.
If you dont know who made the cub maybe a picture of it would help someone here deterimine who made it and then we can look up the exact throws in the manufacturers manual to it.

RE: Throws on a cub.
It's a Cub....it's not going to do anything crazy or fast. Set your high rate at max and low rate at 60- 70%. Fly it and adjust the throws as needed.

If not the backup plan is to use max throws with 60% expo. the Great Planes 40 size Cub recommends These are the recommended control surface throws (NOTE: Throws are measured at the widest part of the elevator and rudder.): High Rate Low Rate ELEVATOR: 1-1/8" [29mm] up 5/8" [16mm] up 1-1/8" [29mm] down 5/8" [16mm] down RUDDER: 1-3/8" [35mm] right 1" [25mm] right 1-3/8" [35mm] left 1" [25mm] left AILERONS: 3/4" [19mm] up 1/2" [13mm] up 11/16" [17mm] down 7/16" [11mm] down *NOTE: These control surface “throws” are approximate and provide a good starting point for the first flights with your Piper Cub. You may wish to change the throws slightly to provide the smoothness or quickness that you prefer. Increased elevator throw may be required for spins and snap rolls. |
