Robart struts
 

G`Day
I have the Robart 605 retract system andwould like to know ifanyone could please tell me,what length I should have the Robart strut 653 on a Top Flite P-51 1/7th scale.

Have taken the 3/16 coil wire out and installed a straight piece of 3/16 wire which I will be attaching the struts to!

Is there a formula to work out the height of the struts?

When I put the Robostruts in my Hangar 9 Miss America, all I did was install the retract into the wing in the "gear up" position and then measured the distance from the end of the retract unit itself to the center of the wheel well. I also found it helps if you file flat spots on your 3/16" strut wire, it helps to really tighten up the set screws.

The problem is this is a kit form P-51 and as I want to install the retracts in the wing before I sheet the wing there is no wheel well to measure against!!

So I`m not sure what to do!

Has anyone else had this problem?

Should I just go of the plans, although the plans have drawings that show 3/12 in wheels where I will be using 31/4 inch wheels

In that case, I'd just go off the plans. You can sheet the wing leaving the retract mounting area exposed, mount your retract and measure the dimensions on the plans to where the wheel is supposed to go. Then you can cut your strut and adjust the wheel well size for the wheel you are planning to use.

BTW, If the plans or instructions don't tell you to do so, I'd suggest enclosing the area that is opened up by the wheel well and the strut. That way it will keep exhaust residue, dirt and other foreign matter from getting inside your wings. You can then paint the inside of the wheel well area to help fuel proof it. It really looks great and finishes off the wing too...:)

This is my first build, am planning to install the OS 120 Surpass over the Saito 125as they say this model needs extra weight at the nose!

Not sureIf I should buy the Surpass with fuel pump or not?

Is there a muffler I can use for this OSengine that can sit inside the cowl and maybe let the exhaust out from the bottom of the cowl?
