Problem with Caliber 30 clutch
Ok, I know.. the noob in me keeps comming out I took apart my cal 30 and found that the fan blades were broken off, and that the plastic clutch bell with lining had melted to the clutch shoe... Any idea why? I have only started this machine to make sure it runs, I purchased it used.
Thanks in advance!

I had that problem with my Caliber 3. I think it may be because it was too lean and it got hot. Not too sure though, just my two cents.

Ok.. I got the new clutch drum in and found out that the clutch shoe is too big for it to go over. So the real question is why did the shoe stay "larger"?

Is the clutch shoe new or used/old? If it is used/old it may have opened meaning the gaps may have gotten wider, that's what happened to one of my clutches.

Just for interest sake and future reference.
What was the outcome.
Barra.
Did you find out from your C30 friend.
Only thing I could think of is starting the engine when revs are too high and holding the rotor.
I also try to avoid the rpm range where it just starting to engage (slipping) as I rev up. Get the revs a bit higher where the clutch is positively engaged. rather than sitting for a while at the lower (sliiping) rpm.
I assume this helps reduce wear, but not certain.

If the fan blades are missing, the adapter shaft unwound.Loctiting it back together will stop that happening again.yes,a to high idle will melt your clutch.I have to start my c3 and get the glowdriver off quick as the gx36 doesnt like to idle, then let it spool up a bit and warm up before a flight. The clutch shoe`s do expand as the lining wears, unfortunatly you`ll have to change both.fly it,fix it.......keep repeating.

RE: Problem with Caliber 30 clutch
Actually the clutch disc is often too big for the "new" clutch bell, after a meltdown of the clutchband. When the rubber inside the bell is burned like this you have to change the bell or... get a smooth surface inside the bell before gluing the new band on. When you try to mount it with the old clutchshoe it is too big. This is because it expands when burning the clutch. (like kevinator says) Its easy too fix. Just hammer light on the two shoewings...so it becomes smaller. Then it will fit properly. Good luck.
