Default clutch doesn't disengage

People,

Here's the problem:
When i start the heli up the first time for that day,
the engine idles good and the clutch doesn't engages.
so far so good.
But after flying a little and returning back to idle, the clutch
doesn't want to disengage anymore, not even when i hold the
rotor still for some time.

So once the clutch has engaged, it won't disengage anymore.
I'm pretty bored with it...
Any ideas?

thanks a lot,
Wouter

Wouter,

What did the clutch and liner look like when you took it apart? It sounds like the idle is too high.

If your idle is okay, I'd suspect that the clutch shoes have been weakened.

The first flight, they're "cold" and have the correct tension but, as you fly, they warm up and lose their tension - resulting in lower rpm required to engage the pad.

They don't necessarily need a lot of use to cause problems: I had a clutch shoe break on me, (while hovering), on a bird that had less than a gallon of fuel run through it.

Default clutch doesn't disengage

hi there,

I flew the heli once more yesterday and now the cluth did
disengage. Could it have something to do with the outside temperature because it was quite a bit warmer than the times
before.

Anyway, another problem popped up.
When the rotor was spinning up the heli made a sort of metallic sound, like something was scratching against something else.
The sound went away when in a hover....
I suppose it came from the engine, the clutch or the rotorhead but i wouldn't know what's wrong, everything looks normal.

Any idea's?

The only time I heard that kind of grinding sound was when my clutch pad disintegrated in flight.

I'd still recommend taking the clutch assembly apart and checking it.

Default bad clutch

My nexus did the same thing..it had a little "ring..ding ding"..sound..that is the shoes hitting the aluminum clutch bell...epoxy in new clutch liner...make sure it doesnt overlap..fit it to the bell ..if it drags you may have to sand a little off....your clutch grabbing sounds like the liner was letting go and causing it to stick(stay engaged)..now that it is probably all gone there is plenty of room in there for it to turn but it is now metal to metal..or your basic...ring.ding,ding sound...i fixed mine and have countless flights and i love it...its no excell but it is a good little heli to play with
