Yeah, check that it's not a 4.8V only servo running on 6V

Also check that everything is free and easy. No binding.

An 8717 on the tail??

Try a 9254

Usually that means too much gain though.

Not sure what a 8717 is but just check that you don't have the gyro set to DS (digital servo) if the 8717 is an analog servo it could be the higher pulse rate thats causing it to fry it's bits and have you set up the limit on the gyro so the pitch arm doesnt lock up?

the 8717 is a digital servo and the gyro limit is set to 70%

Limit is too low, you need to have it atleast 100 (assuming we are talking about the gyro pot)

Gain is too high, turn it down to 55 or 60

Thats a digital servo and it will take 8v from a lipo so voltage isn't the problem.

Don't know bout that - your endpoint adjustment on the radio should be 100% - first turn the limit on the gyro to full, then give full rudder command in normal mode, then slowly decrease the limit until the pitch link reaches the limit of its travel on the tail shaft. unless your servo horn/pitch arm ratio is perfect it is unlikely that you will use "100" as a setting on the limit. Perhaps try to increase the delay setting on the gyro as the tail sensitivity could be quite low. Anyway I fly my Caliber 3 at 80% sens and it works fine.

If your limit pot is under 100 then your servo arm is too long and should be shortened by one hole and the limit pot readjusted to it is at or slightly over 100.

You don't need delay with an 8717, its lightning fast, but I've never seen it used as a tail servo.

Have you opened the servo up? It might not have/enough grease on the gears which could load the motor...
