Default Kyosho's upgraded Caliber 30 Servo Tray

Please see the attached photo of the Servo Tray Upgrade available direct from Kyosho.

It consists of the ball joints (4), rods and rod ends, and aluminium stringers that replace the original plastic ones. The aluminium ones have a tapped thread to attach the ball joint.

Installation time is about 5 minutes as compared to many homemade mods.

the only thing I didnt like is that the screws that mount to the frame above the servo tray are self tapping, however, all pitching tendancies during flight have ceased and the tray is certainly less flexible.

With the inspiration that your images gave me, I decided that I couldn't wait for however long it would take to get them shipped to the UK....

And I was a little bored tonight....

So I improvised a little

The photos are in my gallery. Just took 4 balls, 4 links, some extra threaded bar, and a drill bit It's make a large difference to the stability of the tray. The slop is not all gone, but it has been reduced by about 80%.

Could somone explain why the entire servo tray needs to slide on the Caliber 30? I'm considering getting one, but this seems to be an inefficient and slop-prone control method. Does it slide if using EMS, or just MMS?

Also, does the Caliber have a one-way bearing in the starting system, or would I have to get an expesive start shaft?

And does anyone know where to get the upgrade parts that are referred to?

Mechanical mixing uses the sliding tray and actually works pretty good. The electrical mixing uses a stationary tray and works even better. You have to get the expensive starter shaft with the one way bearing in it. Whty they chose to do this I have no idea. But it's easier to replace the one way on the shaft than in the starter coupling.
