Default Power Cut-off in the 120

Hi, I have a Corona 120. I use the LMH castle creations 35 amp esc with the atomic force modor. I have a 9.6v 3300 mah battery, with anderson connectors. For some reason when I am flying on occasion the helicopter will randomly loose power and drop out of the air, almost instantly it will regain power after it hits the ground. I notice this much more when I am flying outside. If I fly in my garge I barely experience the problem. Also I happens more often when the modor is heated but it will happen when the modor is cool. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong. I know its not the ESC becuase its brand new and so is the modor. PLease someone help me.

It sounds like a glitch. Your receiver is losing the signal, or something is interferring with it. Make sure you try to move the antenna wire away from all other wires, and that the receiver is as far away from everything as possible. Good luck.

When the power cuts out feel your ESC and tell me if it isn't hot. I had the exact same problem and I had an overheating ESC. The CC35.

What I did was to take the canopy off. No more problems.

Will have to install a CC45 to fly with the canopy from now on.

Try taking the canopy off & see if that helps you.

Don't think that I't can't be the speedcontrol just because it's new! Castle creations speedcontrols are plagued with all sorts of problems new or old! I have two corona 120 both have the same problem, but it doesn't happen often enough for me to even bother to fix it. it happens maybe once every 20 flights. Im not sure what it is either, but one day if i decide to correct the problem I will start by getting a different name brand ESC.

I had a similar problem with my 120. I tried everything to eliminate the problem. Including replacing the CC speed control, rerouting wiring, moving the antenna, new receiver and crystal still had the same problem. The solution was a ferrite ring, 50+ flights now not one throttle glitch. Hope this helps.

beaner,

Could you explain how a ferrite ring works and how exactly you applied it to your Corona?

If it's what I'm thinking of, I believe I've seen them used in Germany on 1/4 scale gliders. I think they wrapped the servo wires around them for each servo to help reduce glitching?

A picture of your application would be helpful as well. I am interested.

Thanks,

FFW.

FFW,
I’m not exactly sure how it works, something to do with trapping the interference. You are correct in that the speed control receiver lead is wrapped around the ring. I think I purchased the ring through Helihobby for about $15.00. One of the best investments I’ve made.
I have a picture but I am not sure how to post it here. If you can explain how, I'll gladly post it.

FFW,
Thanks for the instructions on posting a picture. That pesky ‘Image’ button at the top kept luring me in[:@]. Anyway, here’s the picture.

Wow!

Thanks!

That ring is smaller than I imagined it would be.

I'm going to give it a try!

The ones from Helihobby are from the company that makes the Logo's..I think Mikado..so they are expensive...you can get almost 19 of them here for the same price.http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopexd.asp?id=795 Good luck.

Hello,

if that doesnt work or totally get rid of it, try a berg receiver. They are the best receivers out there. They somehow "store" a sine wave, so if you have a glitch, it will substitute the stored wave. Then you have no glitches. That may be a simplified explanation, but thats the jist of it. By the way Beaner, Is that a swash from Matt? if it is, how do you like it? Did you replace the stock swash or an Eco? Thanks for letting me know and I dont mean to steal this thread, just swa it in Beaners pictures Thanks [8D]

Hey rad,,, where is the best place to buy a berg reciever. I had a real bad experience with a Hitecc reciever. It was really my fault but I plugged the battery to the ESC befor turning on the XR. I have done it many times befor I had the motor connected. It took off,, cut my fingers and did belly flops across my lawn befor I could reach my XR and turn it on. The ESC is not surposed to turn on but again it is my fault. I think the reciever is a little at fault. Live and learn right!!!

Yes, the swashplate is from Matt, it's the FP. He offers some nice products for the Corona. I also have his tail rotor belt drive conversion kit and 5MM main rotor shaft. I am very satisifed with all three upgrades.
FFW, are you running the stock swash plate?

Hello Beaner and Donnie, No Im using the Eco 8 swash. I have quite a few upgrades from Matt. One of them being the 7mm shaft. So the Eco 8 swash was a simple add-on. It is alot more stable than the stock one. Donnie, I heard that the Czech plants are shut down and they are building plants in the US. So now there is a shortage of receivers. You can try here in the classifieds or try rcgroups. You can also try ebay, if you dont totally object (some people say thats a bad word). I found mine at Rcgroups, but it took awhile to find it. People dont want to part with them. Good luck.

well I think i may have figured out the problem. yes a ferrite ring isnt bad to have but I think the poblem is having the wip antenna so close to the servo wires. I discounted my whip antenna and let my receivers antenna hang for the front of the heli and I havn't experienced a glitch yet.

I was flying my 120 today and took two pretty scary hits. It jerked the tail and jittered the motor. I have one of those rings on the way and I am going to route the servo wires further away from the wip.

Hi puble23,
I have a HackerC40 12t and a Phoenix60 ESC. An Apogee 3S2P 4160ma lipo. I am also using the Hitec555 reciever and Hitec eclipse7 XR. Jr500t gyro and 3 hitec hs-81 servos. I am going to upgrade to a digital tail rotor servo soon. Still trying to pick the right one. I have the chopper-1 tail boom upgrade but havn't installed it yet. I was going to destroy the stock one first. Knock on wood. I havn't crashed this bird yet.

I just re-routed the servo wires away from the wip. Even to the other side of the crutch where posible. I'll let you know if it helps.

Hey puble23,
Just brought it in from a flight. Not one glitch this time. Still have some tail hunting though. Only minor. I hope a digital servo will help that. I have tightened the linkage to the tail the best it can be stock. Not much play. I can still try lowering the gain a bit.

Hey Beaner,

No I'm running an Eco-8 swash. The rest of the heli is every part that Matt makes. I just bought one of everything. Here's a pic of when I was building it.

Berg receivers can be purchased frm RC-Direct out of San Diego. Last I heard he was the Berg distributer.
